Thanks guys! I remembered getting these as a kid, and about five years ago decided that I would make them for my crew!
Mary, they are done in steps:
- First you mold them (sugar, meringue powder, water and coloring) - you mold the bottom part and the top part of the egg. You hollow out the middle, and then you let them dry for about 12 hours.
- Next you decorate the inside of them, and seal the top to the bottom. You let them set for a few hours.
- Next you do your trim work around the center part of the egg where you join the top and bottom, and around the opening. Let that set for a while (the icing has to dry). This is also when I make the roses, that way they have time to dry as well.
- Lastly you put the rose on top and add the leaves!
I put them in a "window" box with Easter grass, it makes a real pretty presentation

you make it sound so easy, but it looks very labor-intensive. I couldnt never coordinate my shaky hands to do something so intricate.
wow, the things you miss out on by never celebrating Easter....

Sunny, your eggs are fantastically gorgeous! Have you ever thought about marketing them to boutique-type shops during spring? -- Diane

Thank you Diane! I hadn't thought about marketing them

I just really enjoy making them and giving them away as gifts.

Ditto on the marketing idea! As alicia said this sounds labor intensive but you make it sound simple Cindy.
Sure beats my ole caramel popcorn recipe, anyday. I've been told I should market it and I just laugh. It's ~so easy~ to make. People are amazed it's so easy. Nothing like you've decribed. You have to have a steady hand do create these eggs.
You're quite talented Cindy!
