John and I are still smoke free as of August 25th. It was tough at the beginning, but I think we have it licked. We will always be an addict, like alcohol. 40 years of smoking is a long time. I just got my chest xray back for the year and it is clear.

Now, if I could quit eating

Congrats for quitting! I never smoked but I grew up in a smoker's family, my dad. It is a nasty addiction and a tough one to kick. So give yourselves a big pat on the back for staying smoke free this long.

I have gained 20 pounds in six months. But, it will be way easier to lose that than it was quitting cold turkey. The important thing is dealing with the smoking first and later the weight loss. The extra 20 pounds will not affect my health at all, the smoking did.

Good for you! :) How long has it been? I'm going on more then 2 years myself. Sadly, I didn't quit before damage was done. But the benefits are so much better. I can't believe now how bad smokers smell. I smelled like that?! Oh, and the added weight is a pain, but healthier then the smoking... Though sooner or later, I hope to loose it.

Anyway, again, congrats!

Yes, and I do not have the full chest feeling now. We had our last cig August 25th. Over 7 months now, I guess. I am not worried about losing the weight. Have to get thru this first.

:uarrow: OMG, that WAS Bill posting, up there! Good to see 'ya, my friend!

That's my breakfast, every morning - coffee and cigs while getting ready for
work. You gotta be ready to do it, when you do it. Good for you, Janice, and
other folks who've done it!

Most policemen smoke. Can't imagine why.

Here when they go to CID (criminal investigation division) they still smoke plus get pot bellies. Stay away from CID, Brother!

Congratulations Janice and John. I joined you on New Years day. Even though the Mrs. still smokes, it's getting easier by now. I used the patch and it worked better than I thought it would.

Seems like I put on 25 pounds overnight though.

I quit smoking 26 years ago. I will never go back. Janice, as bad as the weight gain might seem, if I remember what they told us correctly, it takes 100 pounds of wieght gain to cause the same amount of medical problems smoking a pack a day causes. I could be off on this and I do not advocate the weight gain, but it is something to think about. Either way you look at it I can say I quit and I am glad I did. Ironically, I quit for my kids health and now they both smoke(they are adults)as well as my wife also. It is doable to stay smoke free and I CONGRATULATE YOU BOTH!!!! GREAT WORK!!!!

You don't realize what an addict and junkie you are till you quit.
