Looking at all the sites I googled it would seem its more than just looks. Like this one has 12 that look all different
http://www.mccfabc.org/ They all have a place to read about behavior/tempermant of the breed, so I think that is a big factor. They say it is a tall big boned breed with a bushy tall, and I can not tell that from your photo. Also they call it a long hair, and your cat doesn't look to have long hair. Or does he/she? I think we need a better photo, lol. This seems to be a good place to read about tempermant and such, although she has probably read all about them.

He does have long hair, a bushy tail, and tuffs of hair in between all four of his paws. He is only 8months old. Not fully grown, he is bigger than our other cat that is 15yrs. old. I will post another picture soon.

I love cats!
My neighbor had a mainecoon cat and he came visiting all the time. Sitting on my outdoor window ledges meowing, for me to come out and do yardwork. So cute.
Then we got a Golden and he stopped coming over. They eventually moved to a condo and I had part ways with my Mainecoon buddy....he was a very special cat.
Looks like your wife might be right! He's quite handsome.

I have a Tuxedo cat, Rattboy and my brother has a Siamese Mix named Kitty Kirk.

They are so funny and are now getting along great since my brother moved in with me in February.

Here are my crazy Cat's
This is one of snickers... as you may notice she does not have a tail
Here is my Paranoid Psychsophrenic Kitty Oreo... that is her usual hiding spot when hear any type of sound or any type of motion from anything. Seriously if she hears a sound or a movement she runs and hides. She is used to me but, not other people. She is deathly afraid of things.

Cute cats there Nathan! What happened to Snicker's tail? The poor kitty. I have a dog that's afraid of a lot of things too. She wouldn't walk past a fire hydrant as a puppy, until I petted it. Seriously, I was having to touch a lot of things back then, to get her to walk past them! She freaks out if a garbage can is empty and blowing around. Looks at me as if to say - I'm not going past that thing, it could attack me!
Pets - they sure are funny. Wouldn't you like to know what they're thinking?
