Myths or All Talk

What myths drive you crazy.

Me... that organic foods are better than chemically grown. All organic have chemicals in them too. Animal waste, urine and poo have chemicals in it too. It has never been proven scientifically that organic is better for you. Yes, they look better in the stores and cost three times as much. That is because they are only showing the big beautiful items, not the runts of the crop.
When chemical are overused by farmers, the plants will shrink and die off. But, normal farmers use the right amount which produce healthy plants, ready for market. Some of the chemicals that farmers use are those that ward off bugs and insects that eat and harm plants. Your body has an immune system that wards off bad things. Think of sitting in traffic where you are exposed to gas fumes every day. See, your body has protected your system so far. This is survival of the fittest. I think all this organic talk is talk without proof. Everything on this planet is made up of chemicals, you will not get away with it. Just like people who will not drink tap water, but use ice cubes anyway.

Well it would seem that vegis and fruit grown without chemicals would be better for you, although I don't buy organic. But I also spray my vegis I grow at home with chemicals and after you smell that stuff you just know it can't be great for you. But as you said I think our bodies have a way to rid of the waste. And about the water, I will buy it here and there but my husband has a really hard time buying water when it comes out the faucet for (almost) free. lol. He kringes at the thought.

I am trying to think of one that bothers me and can't come up with one now, although I know there is a few. I will have to post again when I can think of one. :cheesy:

Buying organic in reality has more to do with protecting the environment than protecting yourself. Both organic and non-organically grown produce has its health risks and advantages, but they prtety much equal out over time.

What about meats and other foods? Animals are fed feed with chemicals. It is very hard to not eat something that does not have manmade or natural chemicals. When was the last time you heard someone getting sick or dying from chemically grown foods?

Well it is a common theory that BGH (bovine growth hormone) could be at least partially responsible for the obesity epidemic in America. That is far from proven at this point, though. As I mentioned above, the organic movement is more about protecting the environment than it is about direct health benefits. It is also unrealistic, since if we tried to support everyone on organically grown produce and meat there wouldn't be nearly enough food for everyone.

Late to this thread-I do not spray my fruit trees and they do just fine-the main problem I have is that the birds like the fruit as much as I do. I also mulch the leaves that come down in the Fall and use that for fertilizer and to retain moisture in the ground. Water? I have to buy water because the tap water here tastes so bad and has so much chlorine in it that it makes me and the dog ill.
