Dangerous Games

#1 Postby Janice » Wed Apr 19, 2006 1:07 pm

When you were young, did you ever play and do dangerous things that today you realize you are lucky to be alive?

When I was small, we went to our cousins farm for the summer. We loved to jump in the oats. I did not realize they were full of rats, that I could have drowned or that there could have been a pitchfork under the oats.

Jumping out of trees to swim in the lakes and rivers, never thinking there could be a log, a piece of rebar, or some other object to land on or impale yourself on.

Sneaking out of the house in my early teens and wandering the streets at wee hours of the morning when the roads were baren, sometimes alone on my way back from somewhere, any idiot could have kidnaped me.

Haven't really played any dangerous games during my childhood.

Ed if you ever go to Carbondale theres a STEEP road in front of the Catholic hospital there. When I was a kid me and my cousins used to ride our bikes down that hill and I know we broke 40 mph. Also as a youngster I used to sneak into the abandoned coal mines up there...NOT something I would do now.

Jumped off a bridge into a deep hole which was surrounded by an oyster bar. It was so deep that when I jumped, I barely made it to the top. I grabbed hold of a pillar and got ripped up by the oysters. I broke down on the interstate after a Christmas party (had on seven inch spike heels and long gown). I waited and waited for help (this is in the ancient days pre cell phones). I finally started walking to the next exit (BAD IDEA) my heels started bleeding and my shoes were full of blood, a trucker pulled over and I accepted the ride (another REAL BAD IDEA) but I was in such pain, I wasn't thinking straight. A friend introduced me to a co-worker to fix me up for a date, she didn't know he had just been released from a 30 year stretch in prison. Not a pleasant date for an innocent girl (thank God for girdles and this time I had sneakers on).
