Great Quake of 1906

#1 Postby CentralFlGal » Mon May 01, 2006 1:28 am

Shows footage taken in quake's aftermath; more of a history on motion pictures. Interesting observations made on women's fashion and altruism during major disasters as well.

Following the Great Quake, movie houses presented scenes of the first megadisaster of the motion picture era in newsreels filmed with hand-cranked cameras. San Francisco cinematographer Sprague Anderson demonstrates how cameramen in 1906 worked, and historians Michael Lampen and Gray Brechin comment on the priceless images those films contain. Duration: 7:06. File size: 32 MB. Chronicle video by James Irwin for SFGate.com
