Venezuela Dictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government

Venezuela government is sole owner of Citgo gasoline company

Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government.
Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression;
we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."

The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela, was Cindy Sheehan,
the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called
President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world."

Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban
dictator Fidel Castro.

Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq, the issue here is that we have
a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is
using our money to achieve his goal!

The Venezuela government, run by dictator Chavez, sole owner of Citgo gas co.
Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow
to bring down our government.

Take Action

Please decide that you will not be shopping at a Citgo station. Why should U.S.
citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take
down our government?

By the way, this has to be a fake or conspiracy article. I wouldn't believe it.

No, because my nephew sent this to me. It came directly from him, so I did not delete anything. He copied and pasted the same as I did here.

Yes, it could very well be a fake. So many are going around. I will check out Harry and Cindys websites later and see if they are endorcing him, etc.

Regardless of whether it is true or not (and there is likely AT LEAST some myth and false information within it), this could become a political bloodshed here. Best to be careful.

Yes, it does not have to become political. We can have an oil discussion like before without bringing politics into it. We are still discussing oil prices with no problems.

If people need to make it political, please refrain so others can discuss it.

I think Chavez is not handling his oil policy well. Also, he could be doing not-so-benevolent things to Venezuelans and others which is generally not told about. Not being political, but this is just my opinion.

I do not have time right now, but later I will check out some websites and see if these people are endorcing it.

If you trust political analysis from an email, you might want to try more established sources of information:

news.bbc.co.uk
cnn.com

Hell I'll even say Fox News.

But yes, that picture is correct and she did go there. It was very dumb of her to fall into a propoganda piece. little more than fearmongering out of context.

Yes Venezuela does own Citgo or at least a large share of Citgo. Yes Hugo Chavez is going for a Bolivarian Revolution that is based on helping the poor at the expense of the rich. Before you're ready to call him an evil communist, he won popular elections and is a legitimate ruler. He did not seize power by force, though in the past he was part of a coup. If you know about Latin American history this is nothing out of the ordinary.

He's anti-american power. It helps him win the support of the people.

Hope I've shed some light on this.

Chavez is one heck of a showman. And while he's certainly a socialist of a (populist) sort, I feel compelled to point out he's not a dictator - not yet at least.

I'm no fan of Hugo Chavez, but I think we (the US) are helping more than hurting him with this ongoing hostility. Without the popularity he gains by standing up to the big bad USA, his popularity would not be nearly so high - since in fact he seems to be a pretty poor president.

I think the smart play would be to not take him so seriously (in our public stance at least) and highlight the better run and more reasonable democracies like Brazil.

(I could go on at length about the contrast between Venezuela and Brazil in terms of their constitutional structure and why in particular Venezuela's change to a unicameral legislature was a bad idea, but I guess that would be well over the politics line for this site)

Locking also -- Sheehan leads to anti/pro-war debates (thus, political).
