I don't get it

I just don't get it....
We can have hurricanes flood New York City, aliens attack D.C., Tom Hanks talk with John F. Kennedy, Slim Pickens sail to earth on an atomic bomb, and body parts sliced off with machetes, all in the name of motion picture special effects.
But medical shows like Grey's Anatomy still can't get the heart monitor to go from showing a slowing heart rate down to asystole with a "flatline" (not straight, mind you, but flat) as a patient dies and no cardiac activity can be detected. A monitor that shows question marks is not monitoring anything. It's showing that leads are off.
Argh!!
At least they're not as bad as "Strong Medicine" where they were doing resuscitative measures on a patient by only doing chest compressions. There was no ambu bag, no intubation, no oxygen...nothing in the way of airway and breathing (the A and B in ABC's).
*shaking head*
Maybe I'll take Paul's advice and read a book.

Hey, it is television and movies.... You forgot Freddie and Jason too. They get shot a million times, thrown out of window, etc. and they look like the day they were born.
They survive without even seeing a doctor...
Nothing beats a good book.

Or how the police on Wisteria Lane can be such idiots?
All those fugitives living on the street.

I gave up TV tonight and talked on the phone with my brother. We hadn't spoken in weeks. Maybe even months. Brent, don't worry I have DH on the DVR......so don't think I've gone completely off the deep end here.
I meant to turn the darn thing on and one thing after another got in the way. And as you see it's past 11:30 now and I need to turn in!
Now Shawn we could always suggest Reality TV shows? LOL Or a show called Lost - now that's a drama that so easy to understand....not!
This all reminds me of the Friends episode where someone is asking how to arrange the furniture and they don't own a TV. Joey asks - what do you point the furniture AT? TV shows are frustrating at times but would we give them up completely? Not on your life!

Glad I don't watch TV, I see all these show topics on various forums and read some of the stuff and just shake my head at it. I don't even bother with movies much anymore, why waste the cash? If it was up to me I wouldn't even have cable, but since my hubby is home 24/7 he needs something. At least it's baseball season, that's about the only time I even glance at it.

I can honestly say that the CSI shows (Las Vegas and New York) are pretty much realistic (Miami CSI is a JOKE, wish I DROVE a HUMMER!) with ONE noticable exception, when processing DNA in the lab, you DO NOT talk to one another and you are wearing MASKS to prevent any spit or "if" you sneezed", getting YOUR DNA on the control sample........other than that, that's pretty much what I DO for living now

Realism vs. fantasy is one thing.
My point is that I can't believe a special effects/CGI person hasn't come up with a way to make a heart monitor display realistic. Compared to aliens blowing up the White House, it ought to be easy as pie.

Even better..surgeons scrubbing for surgery with no masks. Saw that on another show.

angelwing - I must say, I am impressed! Sometimes I think we have too many shows. And then my husband will come home and say - there's a new show we should watch.....I just groan.
We have 4 shows in the 8 p.m. timeslot on Thursday. And I'm out of town that evening (picking up my daughter from college). I've already given the 2 family members at home which show I can skip but they must watch it live, so I can see the other 3 sometime later. After I went thru this explanation to them, you do stop and ask yourself - why? LOL
For now, I'm not giving up TV but when I hear someone doesn't watch current shows, it does impress me! More power to you.
