German car parking (56k warning)

If you haven't heard about this I found it interesting...
Apparently there is this car garage in Germany that has a rather unique way of parking their cars. Instead of driving up and down on concrete ground like we do here in the US; look at what they do there:
Here's the description from the email that I got:
This is pretty amazing! Can you imagine how all this operates??
How do they lock each car in its cubicle for safety? WHO CARES. NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND COULD GET IN THERE.
Talk about German efficiency! The two photos below were taken at a new parking garage in Munich. The actual space that the facility occupies is approximately only 20% of a comparable facility with the traditional design that is used primarily in the US.
Not only is the German structure less expensive to build, but vehicles are also "retrieved" in less time and without the potential of being damaged by an attendant.

That is really great. Yes, securety for your car would be wonderful. As long as the electricity didn't go out, you have it made.

If you notice all the cars look to be about the same, I am wondering if that isnt some sort of parking for new car storage. They all look brand new. It seems like a great idea, but only car can be parked at a time. I guess its kinda like valet parking, someone parks, and retrieves it for you. Interesting.

I didn't see anyone acting that way. You reacted negatively to the comments that others made. Who said something negative that was mean? Could you provide a link to the article/forum you found this in, that could back it up?

Wouldn't lightning be a problem for a facility so tall and made out of iron or steel?

I don't think so. All skyscrapers are made primarily of steel, for instance. A good set of lightning rods on the roof will take care of it.

Josh if you are refering to me, I am sorry I did not mean to upset you, and I did not think I looked at your topic with pessimism and negativity. I am the type of person to observe something closely, kinda wonder how it works and so forth. I just happen to notice all the cars look new, and alike and thought it may not actually be a public parking garage. Thats all, just a comment on what I observed. I thought it was interesting and I liked the topic.

You bring up an interesting point, although I should point out that cars aren't as diverse in Germany as they are here in America. You rarely see anyone in Germany driving a pickup truck or an SUV. The common vechile is a very efficient wagon that could blow the doors off your station wagon. (I don't know how many times I was passed by these station wagons while going 120 mph)

Interesting. Now that you mention it, when my parents lived there briefly back in the late 60's while my dad was stationed there, in all the pictures there were alot of Volkswagon bettles.

I guess that was the car of choice then in Germany.
