Many of the dept. mgr's at my store think I'd make a good dept. mgr. Maybe this is my chance

Yes, and remember most people start at the bottom when they get a job. If you are young, you only have one way to go, up. You will get good benefits and learn all the operations. Get all the on job training, etc. you can learn. A good manager is able to do all the jobs in the store. Take all the opportunities you can.

Here's an update..

I got kinda a double edged sword today.

I had my interview.. My boss seemed impressed.

Here's the rough edge of the sword: I then received a verbal COACHING! :(. We had an accident in produce last week because a customer slipped on a grape that apparently fell out of a bag I thought I had zipped up.

I was basically told I need to just be extra vigilant and more cautious because produce along with frozen are high risk depts. I was also told that since it was a verbal, it really means nothing more than my 1st strike. Verbals do not prevent promotions. Writtens or worse do.

Also.. If I have no more issues by 5/12/07.. It gets completely wiped off my record.

Well, keep your fingers crossed. I am sure there are tons of us here who did not get the first promotion they applied for. If this does not work out, just keep on plugging away and apply for the next one.

Good luck.Sounds like the Bosses there are not that bad to work for.I had worked the grocery business for 16 years!!Always keep this in your mind there is always other grocery stores to work for that will pay a lot of money, so learn as must as possible.

That's right BUD! I spent 20 years in the business, retired from it 6 years ago and I NEVER passed up an opportunity to learn a new dept, although I spent the better part of the 20 years (17) as a meat cutter.

Some would argue that no news is good news.. lol..

well, There is still no word yet on frozen. Word is.. the longer they hold out, It may somehow be to my advantage.

I have also decided.. If I don't get it.. no prob. I found out Wed. my store had produce best sales in the entire district for 1st qtr. so did our grocery..:)

I hate waiting lol

I wanted to let you guys know I didn't get it.. :(

But there is actually a part of me that is happy I didn't get it. What made me mad is that I found out via the sales floor. Not from management. Mgmt didn't even bother to tell me I didnt get it. which would actually be considered a violation of policy and of ethics

My store boss assured me he'd discuss this with the 2 bosses that interviewed me for the job

You know what, this goes on in all jobs. Don't feel like it is just your place of work.

Just hang in there, get all the job training they provide in your store and keep applying up.

Someday, you will get it.

Remember, lots of others applied for that job and there was probably a lot of competition.

I have applied for a lot of jobs in my early days and never got responses either.
