With all the natural disasters happening around the globe where do you think would be the best place to live to avoid a natural disaster?

It's pretty safe here. No tornados because of the mountains and hills. No earthquakes. No hurricane winds or storm surge. We do get flooding, but all you have to do is live on higher ground. Occasional ice storm, severe thunderstorm with wind gusts, but that's about it.

Bad ice storms? That happened like once.

Real cold? Not really, unless you live in the Arctic. Other than that, its 100F here in the summer just like in the USA. About as cold as the northern states in the winter.

Hardly any tornadoes.
Not many hail storms.
Few quakes.
Rare tsunami.
Not many refineries.
There is forest fires in the summer.
Not a lot of flooding.
Barely a hurricane per 5 years.
Etc.

If you don't mind temperatures hot enough to melt the pen in your pocket, Phoenix is pretty safe!!! No hurricanes, no earthquakes, F1 tornadoes every few years, and a little flash flooding and hail.

Oh, and no deadly bugs in Canada besides the Black Widow found in extreme southern Ontario.

Well, like L.A. it's vulnerable to an occasional earthquake but the real big ones are centuries apart, and it's on an active volcano area, but has never suffered anything catastrophic from any of its areas although some ash falls about every 10-20 years. That aside, it is over 2,000 m in elevation (forget hurricanes, tsunamis, and any threats from the sea) and the weather is positively beautiful.. ALL YEAR ROUND. It's high altitude, and location only 50 miles from the equator, combine to give Ecuador an AVERAGE low of around 55 at night and high in the uppeer 60's during the day... It is rare for temps to get over the 70's in Quito, and equally rare for them to get below the 40's. Tornados are equally virtually unheard of, though winter does have its rain. Climatalogically, Quito is one of the most ideal cities on the globe; but like someone said either here or in another thread: There is NO place on the planet devoid of any risk. Given its truly ideal climate, and relatively LOW risk for any catastrophic events... I'd have to say Quito is a good pick... JMHO.

Have to agree, that it's a relatively safe place but would add that they do have some rather cold weather, and occasionally severe storms... 1987 Great Storm... equivalent to Cat 2 hurricane... and just three years later the 1990 Burns Day storm... also depending on region... flooding has been problematic in some areas. Overall though... as far as "natural" disasters, I'd agree it's a relatively "safe" place.

New Zealand is seismically and volcanically active and also gets some mean oceanic storms during the Austral Winter. Interior of Australia would be good if you don't mind Summer heat and occasional Bush Fires.
Of course Australia is home to about half of the 10 most venomous snakes and most poisonous spider in the World.

I wouldn't say 1784 was nothing. Even though the event happened in Iceland, many died in England.

Yes, we do have spiders in Arizona, but they don't "roam your home." Same goes for scorpions in established neighborhoods.

As a city slicker, I saw more spiders in one week while living in Illinois than I have in 9 years here in Arizona. However, the ones I have seen were big enough to knock on the door and ask if they could come in!!

I used to live in Phoenix. There was a scorpion in my bedroom once. Kinda cool.
