On Memorial Day

I hope we will all take some time on this day to pause and (each in our own way) honor those who gave their last measure in the sevice of our nation.

And let us never lose sight of the horror of war, nor fail to make it truly the last option, nor forget our obligation to those left behind - both soldiers and their families.

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Very nice and something that we should reflect on year-round and not just only on Memorial Day and Veterans Day!

Amen!

I would like to remember my uncle, Robert Malone Wiles, who died in December 2004. He was a veteran of Vietnam and a Merchant Marine until his cancer showed up. He was getting ready to go back to work as a Merchant Marine when the lung cancer returned.

I also would like to remember my uncle, David Robberson, who also served for his country. May he rest in peace. He died November 2003. Even neither died during war but they served their country and loved their country.

I also would like to remember all of those who have died, injured, and are over there right now serving our country. My best friend's little brother is in Iraq right now. He missed the birth of his first child, a son.
May God be with our troops and their families and friends and be with those who are grieving for their love ones. Thank you for giving the ultimate sacrifice so my family can live in peace.
