What were some things your parents did that embarrassed you when you were little?

I remember going for rides in the country and if I had to go to the bathroom, Dad would pull the car over, open the door and we did our duty hiding behind the door. There were no bathrooms on the roads like now.

I did that!!! My mom would grab a towel or small blanket and wrap it around me. As if that blanket helped me go....sure, it did. LOL

I used to just hate when my mom would lick her fingers and wipe my face or slick my bangs back. Yuck! She smoked and drank 6+ cups of strong black tea all day long. Let me tell you, her breath was not sweet smelling. I wanted to gag when she'd do that.....kids just do not care if their face is dirty or their hair is a mess. Leave them be!

I'm trying to think of something my dad did and I can't come up with anything! Maybe watch his Lawrence Welk show.....but even that was normal back then.

I did that too!!!!! My Mom also smoked and drank coffee and I can remember how bad her breath was. I loved here dearly, but YUCK.

I can remember when I was in high school and our band was invited to The Kirkrade Music Festival in Holland. I was a majorette and sat first chair flute and piccolo. My Dad did not like the chaperones and would not let me leave the country. I was embarassed.

OMG, the licking of the fingers thing. God my mom too did that and I hated it!!! I will not do it to my kids, I make them lick their own finger and do it. lol. My mom tried to do it to my youngest just the other day, and I am like NO don't do that. My mom would always want to give me kiss in public on the head or in front of my friends, and when your a teenager thats soooo embarassing. I won't do that either. :cheesy:

the only two things mom ever did to embarrass me was 1) set a bedtime at a pajama party. we would have seances and stuff. how can you have a seance at 9pm? but she only did that once. and 2) when i was a freshman in college (and only 17), she showed up at a dance club where i was partying and gave the bouncer a hard time for letting me in.

 Of course since I am older and I am a parent now I understand why my parents did some of the things that they did.

Having a 11pm curfew when I was a senior in high school. Most of my friends had curfews when they came home. Another words they didn't have curfews.

My mom calling me fifty times a day when I went off to college. She would call me in the morning. Call me when I got out of class. Call me when I was supposed to be home and you better be at the phone when she called. Another words she was trying to make sure I was going out partying. Little did she know.

I remember skipping youth group one Wed. night, and going behind the church to Popeye's Chicken....everyone did it, but this was my first....I was walking out of the bathroom, and there stood my parents, pissed.....I was with the hottest guys in youth...and they(my parents) screamed at me, humilated me, and drug me back to youth group...that was embarassing....I never skipped youth group again! lol

When I turned 13 years old, we had my birthday dinner at The Chart House, in Daytona Bch, where I lived. At 13, girls think every guy is hot...well, after dinner, my dad had arranged for every waiter in the place to come over, wish me happy birthday, and give me a kiss....OMG....was I ever embarassed, but truthfully, I loved every minute of it, and will never forget it! lol

Yeah, I dreaded being given a lift to school by my dad especially...he would always want a hug or something before I got out of the car... and there was just no way under the sun that was gonna happen on the school car park compound (or within a 5 mile radius of the school either since you never knew who was watching) .

Then there was the "pretending to be friends with my friends" thing that my mom and dad went through. Good grief! Now in hindsight I know why I never brought back more friends to our house.
