Have you ever actually witnessed a shoplifter in progress when you were in a store? What did you do?

Just recently, I saw two men wander thru my "world's largest Kroger store" - that title is true, BTW - without a cart and pick up products, over and over again, laughing and carrying on. They were of Hispanic decent and were wearing construction type clothing - muddy work boots, white ribbed sleeveless men's tank tops, etc. I'd turn down an aisle and see them again. But never with a cart, half full or nearly full by the end. We have a pharmacy and a bankmart at this Kroger's too. Along with a jewelry store and Starbucks. This proto type is apparently the size of new Kroger's? Anyway, I did alert the managers after a while. I had been shopping for at least 45 minutes and I thought their behavior was very odd. To spend 45 minutes in a store w/o groceries is very suspicious.

The store managers laughed and told me they were probably "plants", shoppers sent to spy on Kroger's - how the store is laid out, the prices of everything, what particular items were sold there, etc.

I saw them check out - with a case of beer at the end. LOL

I'll never know if the managers were right, but they did watch them. But said they get suspicious looking people in their store all the time and they're usually spies. LOL

That's about as far as I've ever seen an almost shoplifter.

Yep, I have seen a man stealing a bag of chips from the circle K, and also seen some other woman stealing from the Wal Mart I think it was. I didn't say boo to them I figure they will get thiers adventually. Oh and I saw someone years ago in Walgreens stuffing something in her purse. And I must addmit as a teenager I stole a few things, but luckly never got caught. Me and my best friend were so stupid.

Yes, I work in retail. Once they had this woman who checked out some boots. And after the cashier checked her out, she was putting additional boots in her big shopping bag. She was switching out the cheaper boots for the more expensive ones. I called security on the phone, nobody came. I paged for security, nobody came. We are not allowed to approach shoplifters ourselves. Only security can do that. Finally, the store manager came out and asked me what the problem was. I told him but it was a little too late, the woman had already exited the store.

My mother and I saw two young men steal a pack of cigarettes while the clerk's back was turned. I reported it but the manager said he couldn't do anything because they couldn't prove the pack belong to the store. I suppose the clerks or security are the only ones who can detain someone.

About 20 years ago I was visiting a friend of mine working in a convenience store when we both withnessed a young man stuffing candy bars in his pockets. My friend locked the door after quietly calling the police; then the thief tried to leave he asked that the door be unlocked and my friend told him the door would be unlocked after the police arrived. He wisely didnt fight..of course he denied doing anything wrong. The cops were delighted as this guy had a stack of warrants out on him. And I got free coffee

BTW im not afraid to get involved in a situation. A couple of years ago I went after a hit and run driver and followed the car while relaying info to the police on my cell phone. The dumba$$ went down a dead end street..abandoned the car..and took off. A K9 unit found him up in a tree. Last year I was a witness to an incident in which a state trooper was shot and wounded. Wont go into detail since im testifying in court in August but I will say the police and prosecutors are quite happy with me. Sorry if I got off topic here..im bored lol
