Anyone familiar with Asperger's

#1 Postby beachbum_al » Wed Jun 07, 2006 10:00 pm

My nephew, who just turned four, has been showing characteristics of aspergers. At first I thought my sister was just imagining things but then I started to think about the fact that she does deal with this everyday being a special education teacher. She sees signs and starts investigating.

Well back when my sister was pregnant with Michael the ultrasound show four to five choriod plexus cycts in the right hemisphere of the brain. They did another ultrasound at 26 weeks and the cysts were gone.

Shannan has always wonder about Michael. He has always been hard to handle. He is very active at home~kind of like ADHD. Doesn't sit for five minutes like most kids his age. He can and will at times have out bursts of behavior issues even though he is very loving. It is like he can't control himself.

I will admit when my sister first said something to me I thought she was overreacting. To me Michael was just a normal 3 year old. Well that was until she moved in with my parents and I have been around Michael a little more.

Also when we were doing research on the internet we found where Asperger's was originally called Asperger's choriod plexus. Strange. Part of that is because the part of the brain asperger's affects.

So now since I have taken up half of the bandwidth here does anyone here have dealings with either austism or asperger's? Have you ever heard a link between Aspergers and choroid plexus cycts?

It is like I told my sister she already has one foot in the door when it comes to getting Michael tested and help. She is a special education teacher and works with children who have austism and aspergers. So she does have some background for what she is seeing in her son. I know this is putting a strain on her. Our family has already been through so much with the death of my son, our grandfather, two uncles, and this. My mom is not helping either when Shannan tries to talk to her. She keeps telling Shannan that she is imagining all of this even our mom will make comments that Michael is doing things that seem bizarre.

Any info or links or just someone who is dealing with aspergers or has a family member with it.

Tom who was a member here and now is at Eastern has Aspergers Syndrome. I don't know a lot about it but I know he doesn't like to be around people and its hard for him to meet people.

My daughter had ADHD and my son had ADD so I could tell you about those two things.

I hope you get some help and some information. I am sure there has got to be an organization for Asperger's Syndrome children or somethinh like that which could help you. But I'm sure in Fairhope there is not a lot :) Gotta love small towns!

But I will keep your family in my prayers and hope you can find an answer soon.

beachbum_al - yes we do have several members here with AS. Eric/Skywatch has it and would be a good member to PM with. As well as weatherlover_427/Joshua. One topic was started by ColdFront77/Tom but I don't think he posts here anymore. Here are a few former OT Asberger Syndrome topics from the past:

I wish you, your nephew and his family the very best.

Try the search function on Storm2K. I know there was a topic on Asperger's. Also, go to google.com and use the advanced and I'm sure you will get loads of info.

Thank you everyone. My sister has an appointment with the State of Florida to get him tested to see if they can get him in early intervention class through the school system where she lives.
