I was just about to go to sleep when I heard a parade of fire trucks with blaring sirens. Looked out the window to see a MASSIVE fire down the street. I thought it was a house for a moment. Me and my mom ran outside and it's the railroad depot at the end of the street. HUGE fire. So now I cannot sleep and I'm probably going out to look at it again.
WOW. I've never had a fire on my street before.

Wow, That'll be enough excitement for one day.
I hope that nobody got hurt.

I hope everything's okay now, Brent.
I can relate -- I watched the news as buildings on The Strand, just a few blocks from my home and from UTMB, burned during Hurricane Rita. It was scary when they kept talking about how the firefighters were trying to keep it from spreading across the city because the winds were so strong (the media...sheesh! always trying to panic people!).
Let us know how things are!

I had one of those nights as well.
6 years ago, I saw a row of fire trucks on the freeway and I had no clue what it was, then I went to the other side of the window and I saw a church on fire.

The fire is out now though so it's still smoldering. As far as I know no one was injured. It was pretty much abandoned so I wasn't really expecting anyone to be. Fire investigators were out earlier this morning. The fire was so intense it burned through a powerline about 3am and knocked out the power for about 3 hours. We've had the most cars ever go down the road to look at the scene today.

Saw an apartment complex across from mine, while living in Houston, literally a blazing inferno.
Been creeped out about sleeping on the upper floor ever since... fire/smoke detectors all over the place.

I was called by the police after 11 one night and told that a trailer I owned was on fire and asking if anyone was living there. My daughter was. Though the police offered to come get me, the place was just around the corner. They were still fighting it when I arrived. The daughter who lived in it and another daughter were at a local hang out. Third daughter reached them by cell phone. They fought the fire until about 2:30 am. We salvaged a load of clothes from an outdoor laundry room and some food from the freezer. Got to bed about 3:30 am and then got up at 6:30 so we could be at the trailer by daybreak. As we turned the corner, we saw the fire trucks again. It had reignited. This time it burnt to the ground. The only thing that made it through were 5 dolphins carved of palm wood and a few burnt picture albums that I was able to salvage a few pictures from.
My daughter lost almost everything she ever owned and had to start all over again. Scary, heartbreaking, and sobering.

When we lived in an apartment, I was always worried about our little cats. The thing with condos and apartments is that YOU can be ultra-safe, yet some idiot neighbor can fall asleep or get boozed-up or high and burn the whole building down. Thankfully, we were spared. We did have a sign up just inside the door: Please Save our 2 Cats.

That would be something to see. Eerie in your own neighborhood.
I don't recall seeing anything ever happen in my block. I have never seen a fire here in PR. Maybe because of the cement houses, etc. But of course, I do not drive to work, so there may be some on parts of the island I am not aware of.

It's actually a COUNTY paper. That should tell you a lot.
Population of my city is about 6,500. By far the largest city in the county.
No, no one was injured or killed fortunately(it was an old building and had largely been abandoned). They still aren't sure if it was accidential or on purpose though.
