ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Patsy Ramsey, mother of slain child beauty pageant winner JonBenet, died Saturday of ovarian cancer, her lawyer said.

The unsolved killing death of 6-year-old JonBenet in December 1996 put parents Patsy and John in the spotlight.

The girl's beaten and strangled body was found in the basement of her family's home in Boulder, Colorado, the day after Christmas.

Many questions are unanswered about her death -- especially who killed her.

Her parents came under suspicion, but they said an intruder committed the crime. A grand jury investigation ended without charges in 1999.

Patsy Ramsey, 49, died at 3:30 a.m. Saturday with her husband by her side, said Lin Wood, the family's attorney.

Ramsey was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1993, but was free of cancer for nine years until a relapse three years ago, Wood said.

"I think people will remember Patsy as being someone who was falsely accused in connection with the death of her daughter when she should be remembered for being an incredibly loving mother, wonderful wife, and person who showed great courage in fighting a vicious disease over the last many years," Wood said.

The Ramseys left Colorado and had a house in Charlevoix, Michigan, where John Ramsey unsuccessfully ran for office in 2004, and in Atlanta, Georgia.

If she WAS guilty, she'll be before the highest judgment of all....

I don't think she was guilty. I hope she rests in peace.

Guilty, not guilty, no one deserves to die like she did. And the parents were not found guilty. And what about her siblings, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles...do they not deserve sympathy? As sunny said "she'll be before the highest judgement of all".

With all due respect, that's cold and harsh. No one deserves an illness like cancer for ie. She leaves behind not only her husband...but a son, too, as well as other family members.

******

I had 2 family members die of cancer last year.

No parent should have to endure the death of their child, especially in the manner this beautiful child did. It was tragic; and while all harbor their own suspicions one way or the other, as one who saw what losing a child in such a horrible way can do to a family... I can only reiterate Sunny's sentiments. The Ultimate Judge will certainly know. As to the survivors... prayers for any and all that must deal with heavy grief once again.

Eh, get all :x at me, but what I remember vividly is her demeanor during an early press conference, when suspicions were being cast towards the parents. She just seemed weird - body language, expressions, not crying or even teary-eyed and so-forth. NOT what you think a grieving MOTHER would be like. And then she said as part of her statements "We loved THAT CHILD". Sorry, but that just sounds weird, too.

Bugged me how much the ransom note writing looked like hers. For that and a number of other reasons, I always thought she was guilty. But there was enough reasonable doubt introduced during the investigation that even I couldn't convict if it had gone to trial and I'd served on the jury.

How weird -- they really do go in threes. Within a week of each other, three people from well-publicized court cases have, or will, die: E. Pierce Marshall, Patsy Ramsey, and Angel Matorino Resendez. Of course, Ramsey's case never went to trial, but it did go to a grand jury. And Resendez (the "Railroad Killer") isn't dead yet, but is scheduled to die on Tuesday.

I certainly know how hard it is to lose a relative so I have the utmost sympathy for the family.

As was stated earlier she has met the Judge that knows all. No lawyers no appeals.
