Cool. The thought of something that size hitting earth is a bit scary to say the least, but watching one pass is kinda cool.

In 2029:
Friday, April 13 - The asteroid 99942 Apophis (previously better known by its provisional designation 2004 MN4) will pass within 30,000 km (18,600 mi) of the Earth, very briefly appearing as bright as 3rd magnitude. Not only is this rather close, but it happens to fall on a Friday the 13th.
18,600 miles vs. 269,000 miles. How close are the satellites?

I remember reading one passing within 100,000 miles of the Earth back in 1993. Fortunately, that asteroid was also one of the smallest asteroids on record. It had a diameter of about 20 ft.

How big is that asteroid that will come close in 2029?
