Who else fired up the grill and eat (and cooked) enough food for
a national guard armory?

My big brother got a brand new, huge charcoal grill for Father's Day.
Today was it's virgin run. I had the little old charcoal grill that we
call "the apprentice grill" in our family...small, but, tough enough to last
for many years - it cooked the barbecue pork ribs and steaks.

His grill cooked the hamburgers, hotdogs, & hot and mild Italian sausages.

LOL, now, they're yelling, "Take some food home....please!"

I think I'm sufficiently stuffed. The diet starts, tomorrow....right?

I can concur, Annette. The hot dogs, cheeseburgers/hamburgers, homemade potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, soft drinks, iced tea...

PS: I can't even begin to imagine how that Japanese guy gorged down 53 3/4 "dogs" in 12 minutes today in the Nathan's Famous franks contest at Coney Island, NY!!!

The filets(left over from fathers day)were awesome. We were dodging the rain to cook, but we accomplished it. Only had to feed four though so it wasn't quite the feast you had Breeze.

We did it yesterday before going to see the fireworks in the next town. (The big fireworks in the city are today but we're not going - it's too crowded with live radio station broadcasters, vendors, etc. What a racket!) Yeah, we did the traditional bbq. We didn't have all that many leftovers either.

Annette it's good to see you around again. Don't be a stranger, Sis!

Yep, we did the barbaque thing too. I made bbq chicken, steak, homemade tater salad, slow cooked baked beans, and corn on the cob. I am purty dern full myself, and a wee bit buzzed as well.

It's a room full of drunk people, with their buttons undone....LOL

Hey, I'm half way there. We've been grilling out a lot late too - hubby asked for a digital meat thermometer with a remote you carry or wear on your belt, for Father's Day. We've grilled whole chickens out lately, BBQ style and I have to hear updates about every 10 minutes. We're up to 140 degrees now!

We've had the silverqueen homegrown corn, pasta salad, fresh veggies, etc. for about 4 days now.

What a crazy 4 day stretch! And oh yeah, it's as if we don't have a dog right now. She barely comes out of our powder room, the smallest room in our house, with plumbing, w/o windows. If she could fit behind the toilet, she would get back there. She's afraid of storms and of course the fireworks, that have been going off for days. I try to find a 30 minute window where she can eat her dinner and do her biz in the backyard. Then it's back to the bathroom again.

She's even been sleeping in there! LOL

Back to normal tomorrow, huh Annette? Whatever that is.....this will be a very short workweek for many!

LOL, it's good to see other folks going through the madness!

Miss Mary, Alex is going berzerk with the fireworks, too. It won't be back
to normal here for another few days or so - these kids around here manage
to get enough fireworks to fire off a small rocket into outer space!

Annette - This time of year is hard on dogs. I read that there is scientific evidence that they prefer to be in a room with plumbing, something about the pipes being grounded into the soil? I wish I could remember the exact explanation but I swear we know it's bad when Hope is next to the toilet with her head almost behind it along the wall. She gives us a look that practically says - I'm not budging! She sometimes blocks the door, you can't even get in there! We have a friend who thinks it's cute how much time she spends in there. If he uses the powder room, she goes in with him! Laura found a cute xmas ornament with her name on it, Hope. We have it hanging on the outside of the laundry room door. Where she usually sleeps. I'm just about to move it to the powder room door!

Hey Mary! Maggie (Her Pieness on her Throne) is scared of storms and fireworks as well. Most dogs are just trying to find the smallest hidey hole they can squeeze into when they're frightened - less area to have to guard. Just because she's over 50 pounds now doesn't seem to deter Maggie from thinking she can hide under my armpit...

One word of warning about all that leftover BBQ and dogs: my old dog Travis died of pancreatitis 3 years ago following a feast of pilfered rib bones. It's an extremely painful way to go. My vet said he sees pancreatitis cases spike tremendously around the 4th because most dogs get all those fat and bone scraps they're not used to. Try to keep those treats to a minimum - even in the face of those sad eyes and swinging ropes of drool.

I've heard that pork is very bad for dogs and cats, as is chocolate. Small bones are dangerous, too, and never give poultry bones to a dog - the bones splinter easily, becoming "quills" that can lodge in the throat, stomach or intestines. Talkin' about fraidy cats - my sister in-law was wearing earplugs AND earphones - still wouldn't go outside. Thunder and lightning? Forget about it!
