Was It Just Luck?

Do you ever wonder why we were born to the life we have? We could have easily been born in a poverty struck country where people are starving and being tortured.

Was it all just luck? This has nothing to do with where our parents came from or the fact that they live here, but why life in general has to be so from one extreme to another. Does that mean those suffering who cannot help themselves automatically get a free pass to heaven because they have done there suffering already?

I wonder about that too, but it gives me a headache. Even throughout history, some people were born into horrible conditons. But somehow the human spirit is undaunted. It does make you humble, but it's useless to feel guilty.

These are questions that we will never be able to answer. I guess the best way to look at it is that you have to play the cards that you're dealt.

As far as I know...no, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and the only way for him to forgive you of that is for you to believe that he is God and that Jesus died on the cross for your sins...so no free tickets here...however it does make you wonder about why you are the way you are...

Some beliefs (I won't name names) teach that suffering here can cleanse the soul or serve as a propitiation. Others teach that our most heroic efforts are not sufficient.

I don't think that we want to pursue that discussion on this board.

OK, everyone?

I really think the main purpose of this post was because I always wondered why some people were born into a good life and others were born to continuous suffering. I do believe that those who suffer by the hands of other people who basically live a good life deserve any kind of everlasting life. Maybe we are like plants, we are just born where our seed lands.

Wouldn't it make this topic useless, then, as it would keep opinions restricted to one side (i.e., biased) to what is popularly presented on this board? If so, then I think this topic should be locked (no offense to the person who posted it).

I think that this could be an interesting topic, but in my judgement it's going to be best to lock it. I'll review with the rest of staff, and the decision may get reversed.
