Do you have a dog that will eat anything? No matter what is left on your plates after you finish a meal, just gather all plates and put remainer of uneaten foods in a dog dish and watch that dog go. Our dog eats everything we throw to him. Pasta, cooked veggies, meat and potatoes. We have a big dog who is always hungry.

Hey, better than running the disposal all the time. Better than their food.

My dog sees a plate coming his way and he is a happy dog.

Yeah, we have 3 "four legged garbage disposals" HOWEVER......we try NOT to feed them table scraps, according to our vet, it's VERY dangerous to their health and it COULD kill them.....of course a "sliver of fat" from a steak once in awhile doesn't hurt but that's IT!

Janice - that is too funny. Yes our dog seems to eat almost anything. It started with white rice. Hubby thought how sad she only eats dry dog food. So he'd give her a small spoonful of leftover rice from the kitchen table, but in her bowl. So she'd sit right next to us, while eating, just waiting for dinner to be over, to see what she'd get in her bowl. Yes, you guessed it, hubby and family added to the rice treats, but small amounts. One January she developed dry skin and licked a spot almost raw. Vet said she needed fish oil pills (now we give her liquid Flax Seed oil from the Health Food store, less expensive than his Rx pills) and to go on a diet. She was 15 lbs overweight. No more rice, no more treats from our dinner table. Now I add drained, no salt green beans, in her food too. She thinks they are people food and they are, but low fat (got this tip from a Golden board). But if you open any can, she thinks that's MY food. She will sit very close to us while snacking during TV watching. If you leave your snack bowl (popcorn usually) in her reach and leave the room, she will eat it. You can hear her tags on the bowl!

What is really odd about all of this is when she was a puppy, she wan't into eating much. She actually left food in her bowl and didn't want to eat our food - at all. The Vet laughed and said what a good thing that was. Now I know why he was laughing!

The only thing Hope spits back out are raw, strong flavored veggies - red onions, etc. LOL

Our dog is 9 and seems very healthy. We saved her as a pup that was almost dead when she came into our yard. She gets plenty of exercise running around our big backyard. She does not eat like this all the time because we usually eat everything. But, she does seem to know supper time, cause she is always looking in the back door.

Vets are funny....like Doctors.....ours has no problem with people food.

Mine will also eat anything....my 16 month old is the guilty party in slipping them food...but we will give them any leftovers with their regular food.

They also eat anything non food related...the last victim was a fly swatter.

nholley... a dog cannot digest people food the way people do. Your dog is young right now, but your dog will feel the affects in his/her senior years. Get ready for frequent vet trips and a problem with obesity.

What Mary does for Hope is actually acceptable people food.

Linda - you're right, our Vet approves of the canned no-salt green beans. Sometimes I switch it up to canned, no-salt carrots or peas, but I've noticed the GB's, as I call them, agree with her the most. In fact, our Vet said that was a good tip I read once on a Golden Retriever message board. I think he's mentioning it to other dog owners. When I reduced the amount of dry food she was receiving for dieting purposes, she would eat it and then walk over to her food bag, back over to her bowl, look up at me for my attention and bark. As if to say - that is not nearly enough! The green beans add that extra amount she needs and it's low fat, low calorie.

Sometimes we'll run low on frozen or fresh veggies and I joke with the family - well I can always heat up Hope's green beans!!!! LOL I keep about 4 or 6 cans on hand.

Their diet just got less Interesting!

I only feed my dog Iams or Beneful - he seems to love the doggie peas in Beneful. Dennis and Linda my vet says the same thing. Table scraps will affect them in latter years. I only give him people food when I want to give him a pill of some kind. Then he get some cheese or cooked meat. I figure I pay a lot of money to my vet and I might as well listen to him.

Sam will eat anything, acrylic paint, AA batteries, Shotgun shells, you name it, he has eaten it.............but we only feed him dog food. His treats as suggested by our Vet are raw baby carrots and green beans..........he loves them! Also once a week or every two weeks I will scramble an egg for his coat.

Our dogs would eat anything that we eat but we don't give them alot of table scraps. Yes they do like green beans.

I give mine mostly dry (Iam's small chunks preferred)....for the most part... occasionally I'll give her that canned dog food (as I rescued her from a shelter as a pup and she just would not eat dry at all).. but I've weaned her down to a can maybe once a week or two. Beyond that, I can't deny that she gets an occasional half/slice of a cold-cut when I'm digging in the fridge, but she knows this isn't her regular diet.. but a treat--perhaps once every couple of days. She's also a plate cleaner before I put them in the dishwasher.. I do NOT waste any food on my plate, but she does like to lick any sauce that might just have been left around... including berry juice (she seems to love blueberry (juice--never any of the little berries left when I'm finish). It's basically the same diet I gave my beagle before her... and she stayed very trim and healthy till she passed on at nearly 17 years of age.

Pork and chocolate are bad for dogs and cats. Many cats are allergic or intolerant of cream and milk (other than the "mother's milk" they make as a cat treat or for feeding kittens). Most bones are dangerous, too - especially poultry bones - even large ones.

Our oldest girl, Misha (almost seventeen) will on rare occasion manage to lick off of a plate or pan that was cooked in. The sudden rich food in her system will trigger a bout of terrible "poopies" and cramping for her. Poor girl! We try really hard to secure such temptations against her efforts.

Well, the ONLY one gettin' chocolate in MY house... is ME. But as to the pork... I can't speak for cats, having only had 'em once. But it's never hurt any of my dogs, albeit it never was a staple of their diet--but the occasional chunk of ham, and/or the Hamhock bones... which they've all loved... never has been an issue... and that's literally several generations of dogs.

With working dogs like ours (search and rescue), we have to keep them in tip top shape, I mean, someone's life is on the line when "Da Muttley Crew" is on call and working......

Mine have all loved cottage cheese. It's a bit on the pricey side as dog food; but I have used it to get them to start eating their dry... spread a little over the chunks. The latest would give me dirty looks as much as if to say: "okay, wise-guy--what's with all this other garbage my cottage cheese is on??"

Alex gets Alpo "something & gravy", every night...she also gets gets people-food,
several times a week, like eggs, bacon, and some kind of leftover meat.

She WILL eat vegetables - stews - soups....loves fried potatoes.

And, I think I've posted this on here, before...she's almost 12 (come
November 10th). She thinks she's a squirrel...her house is under a
hickory tree, and, she SNACKS on hickory nuts! She's worn those teeth
down to nubs!

Annabelle (she BE a ho'!) would eat ANYTHING, if we let her; she does get a piece of cheese when she's been a "good girl" (i.e. going potty ourtside instead of taking me for a three-times-around-the-house-walk w/o doing anything but sniffing).
