We often hear a lot of warnings about species becoming extinct, but I know a lot of people seem to think it's not really a problem and won't really ever happen. The story below is a wake up call.

If they think it'll never happen, they're sadly mistaken. Despite what folks may think of my own ideology, I am, a scientist, and I know that estimates range than from 100-300 species go extinct every day... most are obscure enough to where folks do, in fact, overlook them--and continue blithely to whistle past the graveyard. The loss of the Black Rhino, if true, would be one that just might make some sit up and take notice. Fantastic animals IMO, and a tragic loss.

It is much worse now thanks to us humans as we continue to destroy our planet Earth.

Can't destroy life, can only make life destroy civilization.

thanks. that's what i meant. life would continue after we are gone and the pollution levels dropped.

I have said before, the Earth would be a much happier place for all concerned if the Human Race were to become extinct. I've also said that the Human Race is proof positive that God CAN make a mistake.

Perhaps Deus non est.
But I wouldn't say the world is worse for mankind. Things like mankind come and go, but the earth endures forever. That's from Ecclessiastes. Sometimes species outcompete other species, and then there is a change and the earth regains ecological equilibrium. For our own sake though we should at least be trying to protect ecosystems, and things that are 'awesome' like the Black Rhino would spur interest in that direction.

Nahhh... I'd prefer Deus ex machina...
nevermind how I came to that... it simply came to mind. I did read though' that this is one of four species of Black Rhinos... some of which are being bred right here in the US in Texas... don't know about much, if any success is being made; or if their population has already crossed the event horizon of oblivion.

Here in FL I see construction everywhere I go where beautiful trees were being torn down and one time a group of people were holding signs saying "Manatees are a hazard to boating" or "Manatees must die". It just goes to show how so many people don't give a damn about the animals and plants around us. Sooner or later we'll be the only species left on Earth and the pollution levels will increase significantly and the human race will only have themselves to blame.

"Manatees are a hazard to boating"
Those folks should'a been thrown in a pool with a bunch of outboard motors running all around in 'em..
