Dirty rotten so and so........I got bit day before yesterday by a BROWN RECLUSE and let me tell you, I am in SO much pain. I was cleaning up some old wood, getting ready to start cutting wood for the winter ALREADY .......I felt a *little sting* under my right armpit, I was sweatin' like a pig and I thought "Eh....it's just a result from the sweat!" I didn't know it was a brown recluse until today when the doctor said it was!

WELL...at 0400 this a.m. I woke up in excruisiating pain and with a welt the size of a golf ball with that "brown recluse" signature in the middle.....needless to say, I spent the better part of the day at the doctors getting it cleaned, debreeded "OUCH" and a shot of Rosceflen and a TON of scripts.....one, 5 PILLS mind you, was a $105 DOLLARS can you BELIEVE it, it's a broad spectrum antibiotic but I guess it's better than having my ARM FALL OFF!

Anyone else suffered a spider bit..........I HATE the dirty rotten little things, PLUS, I'm scared to DEATH of the darn things

I think the antibiotic was Lyvaquin??? Annette, is that right?

Well...never been bit by one of those...I try my best to aviod them like the plague, but I'm not scared of them, just don't want to be bit...problem is the fact that you can't aviod them...if its anything compared to getting a boil lanced and then having the packing changed every three days or so for 2 weeks...I know how you feel...it hurts like HELL!!! Here's to you getting better soon

No Spiders but I ran afoul of our local Fire Ants the other day-Ouch, ouch.

I had a friend who was bitten on Dauphin Island in Alabama. It took over a year to heal . He nearly lost his arm. Please don't use peroxide unless a physician orders it. My brother in law had to have part of his foot amputated because they were cleaning a wound with peroxide and it turned into gangrene. He's diabetic and the surgeon told them peroxide actually forces the bacteria deeper into a wound.
azsnowman I hope you feel better soon. So sorry to hear that you were bitten. The reason my friend took so long to heal was that he was on vacation and didn't go to a Dr. until he got back to Florida. Early treatment early cure.

I have been bitten. Actually this past year. It hurt worse than child birth and that was pleasant. Anyway make sure you take all of your meds. Even if you start to feel better and the area looks better. Of course it will get worse before it gets better. Mine actually made me sick to my stomach when I had to change the dressing and put antibotic ointment on it. Don't be alarm when that big black crater forms. I almost freaked out when it happen. Now I have a nice size scar where it was but I am alive!

Have you checked to see if you can walk up walls yet?

Oh my...Hope you feel better soon... Some friends of mine were talking about brown recluses bites the other day after we saw some on a site... And were very thankful not to have them here in South Africa...Scary things, But atleast you got medication or things would likely have got very *mental images back to bites* :S

I hope taht everything turns out ok, Dennis, but I'm afraid that you'll be dealing with this for an extended time. I guess the good news is that most of the time, they don't turn into the ugly wounds. A lot of it depends on your body's reaction to it. Now's a good time to listen to the sawbones!

I caught a spider in our garage and I've been meaning to send it in somewhere for identification, even though we are supposedly out of their territory.

Dennis, wasn't Michelle bitten by one a couple of years ago? Anyway, take care of yourself and take all your meds. The bad thing is you probably won't be able to wear any deodorant for a while and Michelle is going to have to dress that wound!!!

Coriolis, I didn't need to hear that, you think it was a brown recluse? I've seen brown spiders in our apt here in Philly and am always killing them (I don't need Digger to get a hold of one), next time think I'll keep it and see if maybe U of PA might be able to ID it.

Karan, she was bitten by a Black Widow, which is ALMOST as bad. Her hand swelled 2x's it's normal size, blistered and peeled within a week.

With this heat and humidity, the no deodorant issue is, well, an ISSUE "LOL!" WHEW!!! We've been using the "No pull" tape to dress it with, no PULL my FOOT.......may as well pour hot wax over my chest and use tape to pull it out

I think it's time to SHAVE that armpit to avoid the pain!!!!!!!!! Then you'll feel just like one of us girlie girls.

I would but it hurts too bad to even touch the area, my chest is numb to the breastbone, I can't feel my arm down to my elbow.......needless to say, we have an exterminator coming TODAY to spray the house, workshop and woodpile, EVERYONE in town is complaining about spiders this year, must be the humidity, we've not had humidity and dewpoints THIS high in YEARS, 12 to be exact.......average daily dewpoints over the past 2 weeks have been near 60-70° with RH values running in the 60-80% range!

Dennis, you know me better than that. Now I'm going to have to do some research to understand what you just said about dewpoints and RH's!!! I am the true blonde when it comes to that stuff!!!

What do the exterminators do to keep your neighbor's spiders from coming over to your yard? Do they spray to kill and repel?? If so, how long does it repel the spiders??

Ugh. Please take care, Dennis! I had a bite on my stomach years ago, before they did treatment. (The doctor said it was BRS, and would eventually heal.) After the black hole healed up, it did not show any tissue damage on the surface. But, I squeezed puss from deep (2") inside of that thing off and on for 10 years until my hysterctomy, when I asked the surgeon to please remove all the tissue around it. It took 3 times longer to heal than my belly-wide incision. He couldn't understand the red nasty scar that wouldn't heal up. I was told this 'poison' lives on human tissue and basically regenerates itself.

And yes they don't heal overnight Dennis. It was two months before I could wear clothes without having the bandages on. Do what the doctor say, take care, and rest if possible. Hope you feel better.
