I just downloaded it... it looks a lot better than IE.
Maybe I'll stop getting those annoying error messages now.

I have it, but got so sick of downloading plug-ins that I don't use it anymore. If it weren't for that, I would much prefer it to IE. I also prefer Netscape to IE, but don't have it on my new computer.
The same is true of a lot of Microsoft programs. The counterparts of many MS programs are better than the Microsoft versions (Windows XP v. Tiger).
Oh well.

I've been using it for a fair while now and it is much better than IE. The tabs are really useful as are the extensions you can get.

I have firefox and this is second computer I have had it on. I love it. I did have to download the IE Tab extension so I could open a very few pages in IE that I use but beside that I am happy with it. I don't get the error messages like I used to get and the pop ups had slowed down a bit.

I downloaded it a year or two ago, and I've never looked back.

It works well for me so far. Throw in the tabbed browsing extension so I can have multiple sites open in one window and the other various extensions I have and I have no complaints.

A list of good extensions for Firefox:
http://lesliefranke.com/files/firefoxyourway/
Must-haves in my opinion are:
Ad-block -- gets rid of most (if not all) of the annoying pop-up ads
IE View
BugMeNot -- for newspaper sites that require free registration
Gmail Manager -- if you have one or multiple gmail accounts
NoScripts
Session Manager -- saves the session of Firefox in case of program crash or if you accidently close Firefox
Gasbuddy Query -- asks for you zip code and will open
http://www.gasbuddy.com with the lowest gas prices in your area
FireFoxView -- View pages and links loaded into IE in Firefox (opposite of IE View)
ForcastFox -- yeah, I know it's Accuweather, but it's handy
googlebar -- Google search bar

OK, hate to burst everyone's bubble here, but the new IE (version 7), which is currently in beta and should ship later this year, has tabbed browsing as well as a very minimal toolbar view, as well as a built-in pop-up blocker and other security features. I've been using it for the past couple of months and love it, especially since it doesn't seem to have the random slow-down problems that come with Firefox.

Can you customize it like FireFox? I am talking about extensions, themes, etc?

No more spyware or adware when you use FireFox. IE is full of that.

No - since IE7 is designed for Vista, which has the new Aero interface (all of the tan/blue stuff you see in XP is see-through to your desktop), Microsoft claims that customizing like Firefox is pointless, and refuses to add it, despite numerous requests.

Is it compatible with XP?

Hmm, well I think it is very useful. I've got a couple of extensions that change the way pages display for an online football management game I play making it much better.

I may take a look at when the final verison comes out, but I am still wary of using IE. And Microsoft really needs to look into extensions and allowing the user customize the browser. Being able to customize the browser functions and page display is one of the reasons I switched to FireFox. Well, that and better security and pop-up ad control.

Microsoft is -- as usual -- completely wrong.
