COLUMBUS, Ohio -- John Glenn and his wife have been hurt in a traffic accident.

The 85-year-old former senator and astronaut and his 86-year-old wife, Annie, were in fair condition Saturday at a hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Police said the couple's car collided with another vehicle Friday night on the northeast side of Columbus.

The driver of the other car told The Columbus Dispatch that she was headed east and that Glenn was driving west. She said they collided as he tried to turn left onto a ramp for Interstate 270.

Glenn was the first American to orbit the earth in 1962. He served in the Senate from 1974 to 1998 and went back into space in 1998 at the age of 77.

And your point? Working where I do I see this everyday. Mostly teens or young adults feeling macho on a motorcycle. Please do not start with the elderly babble.

I wish them both well and hope for a speedy recovery. Some people are just insensitive to other people's misfortunes.

Just a few months ago a 16 year old local student pulled right out in front of an 18 wheeler. She was killed. It is sad all the way around.

my point is that there's a time when some of the elderly shouldnt drive anymore. Our recently departed uncle had his license suspended in Mobile for situations very similar to this. I'm just glad no one was killed.

There are ALOT of times when I or anyone else shouldn't drive anymore.

But, back to your topic Eric. I am glad they are okay.
