The owner of the company I work for and my boss just quit. What does that mean?

He turned in his phone and left.

No, we weren't bought out Steph. He rode in one of the tow trucks on a call. The driver could not find the place. The owner got mad and made him bring him back to the office. He walked in, handed me some money, laid his phone on my desk, fixed him a drink and left the building AFTER he said "I QUIT!" lol. He will be back.

Same thing happened at one of my previous jobs. Owner thru down his keys and said " Im thru" and left. It was a horrible day and nothing and i mean nothing was going right. The junior partner came in..called the owner..and told him to take a couple of days off to recoup. That did the trick
More recently at my current job the general manager quit one saturday afternoon. Handed me her keys and walked out. Im a former manager..though a tad rusty..so we remained open and serving customers. Lost a few more hairs though in that 2 hours it took the district manager to get there

Linda,
Sometimes I wish one of my bosses would just quit!!!!!!!! not really, he is a major pain in the butt, but love him to death.....don't ask me why! I guess after working for him for 26 years he feels like an extension of my family and you know you can't quit your family. He is so A-retentive that he sat down and figured out he had been on call for seven full years of his life! He just turned the big 60 so no more call (when you turn 60 you don't have to take ER call anymore) He is so excited, don't know what is gonna happen with his practice though, the ER is where you get your "big" surgeries.

Hmmmmm.....the underlying problem is not YOU Linda....it's his employee that he thought was capable, but is not.
A saying I heard many years ago comes to mind.....
"A business has THREE reputations.....one that they work very hard to GET....one that they work very hard to KEEP....and one they can LOOSE very easily."
Perhaps having to face the challenge his customers may face has brought about a realization that is pretty upsetting!! Good thing he has YOU!......p

I have felt like quiting before while running a crew. Especially when everyone stands around and I do their job. It makes me feel like throwing up my hands and letting them try to run the show.
I hope your boss comes back!
