2:00am local time is what it says... Mid-Northern Latitudes(which I guess would include the U.S.).

Sounds cool, I love metor showers but I doubt I will be awake at 2 am.
And I wish they gave more information on it. That has to be US time huh? Gonna go see if I can find out more. I may just try to stay up.
EDIT: It say on the bottom of the page it is sponsored by the AMS-American Meteor Society.

That is the whole August schedule for showers, seems that tonight at 2am is the maxium for major activity and also at 8pm tomarrow, now that is more my speed. But its not quite dark at 8pm.
Thats a great link to save, if you go to the home page you can click on any month and it will tell you whats going on. Cool.

When we lived in AZ, we used to lay out in the back yard at night and watch the Perseid (SP?) showers. We lived out away from where the city lights affected any viewing and it was AWESOME. Here in Florida, we dont get to see so many and I just got back from Germany last night and havent looked up much yet. Will try tonight if it isnt clouded over. Thanks for this thread and the inadvertent reminder!

The Perseid, Geminid (in December), and the Quadrantid Meteor showers are the best annual showers. The big shows of the Leonids we had in the 1997-2002 time period are over and are not expected to return until 2099 at the earliest because of Planetary perturbations of the orbit of the parent comet. In the early 1990's the Perseids were very active because the parent comet was in the inner Solar system but they have returned to more normal levels. The Geminds occur on December 12th and have been fairly good in recent years. However, this stream's orbit is changing rapidly and by the year 2100 the Geminds will be no more. The Quads are a short duration high intensity shower that occurs on January 4th but they are difficult to observe. We have a moderate shower, the Orionids, in October. Meteor showers are best observed from a dark sky location. In keeping with SE Arizona tradition, the sky was overcast overnight. We have clear skies on the night of 11-12 August about one night in 5 or so.

Actually, that lists the maximum being Aug 13 at 0012Z, i.e. 16 minutes ago - so if you can see through the sunlight, go take a look!

I tried, gave up after 3 seconds . . .

Dang it, dang it, DANG IT.......we had clear skies up until about 1/2 hour ago, I was waiting with beer in hand and lawn chair set up to watch the spectacular, living up here at this altitude and NO city lights, we have the darkest skies at night and now, low clouds
Maybe I'll get up at 0300 and watch it!
