Gyros, the Greek dish. It is pita sandwich that is wrapped with beef or lamb, onions, tomatoes, and tzatziki, a type of cucumber yogurt. Good stuff man. I remember Jack in the Box used to serve the. They were good from a fast food joint. Too bad they don't serve them anymore. :grr: At least, there are Greek restaurants that serve them. 8-)

We have been eating alot of gyros latley. About a year and half ago a little hole in the wall greek joint opened up right down the road. Awesome gyros and humus. Also has great salads and some sort of cheese and broccli thing in filo dough. The guy that owns it is the only guy that you see working and preparing the food, and he is the real deal a very thick accent. I have spotted a new place a few miles away that I want to try soon. Seems like the greek restaurants and small joints are becoming popular here right now.

So sorry your gyros were takin away. I can't get enough.

There is a great Greek restaurant near here that serves them. The food is actually made by Greeks, and you can tell the difference.

I also realized I'd pronounced them wrong for a long time. I always though it was pronounced JIE-roes, but it's pronounced YEE-roes. At least I had the second syllable correct.

However you say it, they're great!

Mmmm, I LOVE gyros -- and hummus and falafel, too! When we lived in the Chicago area, I had several favorite places for Greek and/or Middle Eastern food, some "hole-in-the-wall" small fast-food type places and other full-blown sit-down restaurants. Oddly enough, though, here in our part of SoFla, the best and closest gyros (with extra tzatsiki) I've found so far has been at a chain called Miami Subs. But I'm always on the lookout....
