Approaching fast. Will you fellow storm2ker's be watching? I'll watch it just to see how she does but I prefer NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. He is a giant.

Will she skyrocket CBS into first place in the evening news ratings? Will she have the venerable qualities of Rather, Jennings, Brokaw and Williams? Will she offer hard news or offer a 'dumbing-down of the evening news" broadcasts.

Time will tell. She certainly is having quite the launch:
BUSH, CLINTON, LIMBAUGH, CRONKITE TO LAUNCH COURIC

**Exclusive**

Plans for the opening week of CBS EVENING NEWS WITH KATIE COURIC have surpassed network executives' wildest dream: Presidents Bush and Clinton, radio king Rush Limbaugh and broadcast legend Walter Cronkite have all agreed to appear, a CBS insider reveals!

A top network source says scheduling of "guest editorials" are still in flux.

But the addition of Rush Limbaugh to the CBS EVENING NEWS is bound to generate maximum commotion and tune-in hits.

"It was Katie's idea to bring Limbaugh in," a top CBS source said on Sunday. "She is very excited he has agreed to appear."

Rudy Giuliani and Bill Maher have also signed on for early editions of Couric.

CBS will issue a press release on Monday confirming details of the EVENING NEWS all-star line-up.

Developing...

I'll be watching(I usually watch NBC as well) and to be honest I'm getting more excited the closer it gets, but I'll go back to NBC unless she's just so awesome.

I am most interested though in how she does during Breaking News, when there's no script.

She did do well with Matt Lauer and Tom Brokaw on 9/11. She anchored NBC's morning coverage and then a little bit in the late afternoon as well.

Also, let's not forget that Tuesday is a big day for ABC as well. Rosie O'Donnell starts on The View.

I can't wait. Should be interesting to see. But she is a seasoned journalist so she shouldn't have much trouble.

I might be more excited if not for the fact that she's been mostly a perky face and she's replacing one of the best newsmen in the business.

I'll still watch and give her a chance though.

Reviews have been mostly negative(I didn't like the format), but there was a HUGE sampling last night.

From MediaWeek:

CBS Evening News With Couric Scores Net's Best Ratings in Seven Years

Marc Berman

SEPTEMBER 06, 2006 -

Although one day of overnight data does not a hit or miss make, Katie Couric was amply sampled as the new anchor of The CBS Evening News last night.

The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric averaged a whopping 9.1 rating/17 share in the overnight markets, according to Nielsen Media Research data, more than doubling the household rating from the year-ago time period average (4.5/ 9 in September 2005).

Compared to the lead-in average (6.0/12), that was an increase of a significant 52 percent in rating and five share points. It was also the highest rated CBS Evening News telecast since Feb. 23, 1998 (which was broadcast during CBS’ coverage of the Olympic Winter Games in Nagano).

Opposite Couric's debut, ABC's World News averaged a 5.7/11 in the overnights, with NBC's Nightly News at a 5.3/10.

IMO, Jessica Savitch would have so totally put Katie to shame if she were still alive today.

Did anyone catch the beginning tonight? The show opens like this "You are looking at one dangerous man"(referring to the top 10 fugitive). The problem... the camera shot was still on her! I burst out laughing. :P

I used to watch Katie Couric nearly everyday on The Today Show, but since her move to CBS, I haven't seen her once.
