Jay-Z Unable To Get Beanie Sigel Out Of Jail

(7/16/03, 3 p.m. ET) -- Roc-A-Fella Records recording artist Beanie Sigel (Dwight Grant) was denied bail in a Philadelphia federal court on Monday (July 14) despite the fact that his friend Jay-Z spoke to the judge on his behalf, according to MTV.com. Sigel was ordered held without bail and prosecutors have 30 days to indict him on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. If found guilty, Sigel could receive up to three years in prison.
Sigel, who's already facing charges including attempted murder, is now being charged as a felon in possession of a firearm. During an April 20 traffic stop, police allegedly found guns in the rapper's vehicle.
Sigel was taken into custody by the Bureau Of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms on Wednesday (July 11), while appearing at a hearing to answer aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and simple assault charges for allegedly punching a man on January 9.
The rapper faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault, and possession of a criminal instrument in connection with a shooting that occurred Tuesday (July 1), outside a Philadelphia go-go bar. Sigel allegedly shot Terrence Speller in the foot and stomach. The rapper is slated to appear in court on August 21 for a preliminary hearing on these charges.
