RICHMOND, Va. (Court TV) — Former NBA star Ralph Sampson was sentenced July 8 to two years of probation and fined $1,000 for not paying child support for his 14-year-old daughter.
Authorities said that Sampson, who owed more than $22,000, is now only $661 in arrears.
Sampson had pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge in federal court in April. At the time, he also pleaded guilty in Charlottesville to not paying child support for an 18-year-old daughter and was sentenced to a year of probation.
The 7-foot-4 Sampson, who lives in suburban Atlanta, was the first pick of the 1983 NBA draft by the Houston Rockets following a standout college career at the University of Virginia.
