Good Lord. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but unfortunately I can't. This story just goes from bad to worse. Thanks for the update Duckie.

Was the officer on duty? In a lot of states (I'd bet money Texas is one of them) the only possible sentences for killing an officer on duty are death and life without parole. I'd prefer the latter, since I hate to see the suffering cut short for such people.

Yes, he was on duty and had arrested the suspect. Unfortunately, the suspect had a well-hidden gun, which he used to put four bullets in Officer Johnson's head.

Since the suspect is Mexican, he'll likely get a Hispanic attorney who will argue against the death penalty. And, we'll hear about it from south of the border since most Mexicans are against the death penalty also.

How much you want to bet he gets deported to Mexico and comes back yet again?

The reason for my comment is that's what initially happened: He was deported in 1999 on a felony charge and came right back into the country only to murder an HPD cop.

I understand Jen and I am not upset with you. I know about his history and it just sickens me and makes me madder at the feds(overyears and years and years and years)for not doing the job of protecting our borders properly. Partially due to their lack of proper enforcement a good family man who also happened to be police officer is no longer alive. It just sickens me. BTW, that felony charge was for sexual performance with a child or something along those lines.

Sheesh!! this guy is just like a character from the "Grand Theft Auto" games. Getting deported and coming back again for unfinished business.

Don't forget that the pro-illegal organizations will be out in force to get this guy off as well. After all he was here illegally looking for a better life

I hope not. I hope he gets locked up on this side of the border. After all, they didn't deport Angel Maturino Resendez. If ya commit a crime, ya gotta do the time...regardless of what side of the border you come from.

here is something interesting. houston is a "sanctuary city". they refuse to enforce immigration law. for years the mayor and police cheif have refused to report illegals to immigration authorities. will this policy change now? hopefully, the legal citizens of houton will demand change

Yea ive heard that before as well. Police are sworn to uphold the laws of the locality that employs them, as well as state and FEDERAL law. When a violation of federal law occurs they are supposed to take action while notifying the appropriate federal agency. I do not understand how a political subdivision of the US..namely the City of Houston, can elect NOT to uphold the law of the land.

Who wants to take a guess that you live in a "sanctuary city."

Hopefully the legal citizens of your hometown will demand a change as well.....

Try again Helen. We are not a "sanctuary" city anymore than any other city in this country. Yes the latino population is the majority in this city and yes there are many illiegal immigrants here, but we are not a "sanctuary city".

Asking someone about their immigration status is basically the same as asking someone their sexual orientation. It has nothing to do with the arrest unless they are being arrested because they are known to be an illegal immigrant. If police detained/asked every one who looked like they could be an illegal immigrant in this city they would be doing that with the majority of the citizens of Houston, since we also have a large Asian population. Use a link to something more than an organization clearly targeting illegal immigration to legitimize your posting. Make sure the facts are correct first.

Don't get me wrong. I am all for enforcing the laws against illegal immigration into this country, but we are not a sanctuary city any more than any other city.

On a related development, an Honduran in the country illegally has been sentenced by a Federal Judge to 35 years in a Federal Pen for being the Coyote driving an overloaded van that blew through a line of cars waiting at a traffic light resulting in 5 deaths (including 2 US Citizens) and injured 21 others in Sierra Vista on October 16,2004. The shotgun, who fingered him, got 6 years. Since that accident, there have been several other incidents where Coyotes have blown through the middle of Sierra Vista at speeds in excess of 100 mph so another accident is just a matter of time.
