U.S. planning Naval Blockade of North Korea and war?

NBC News Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Andrea Mitchell reported tonight that senior administration officials are telling her that North Korea must not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon. If they proceed with the test, some in the administration want a naval blockade of North Korea.

If there is a naval blockade, the North will respond by invading South Korea. This nearly happened in 1994 during the Clinton administration. Pres. Clinton was planning a blockade and experts agreed the response of the North would be to invade the South.

Sounds a lot like the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.

Not a problem. No country in the world supports NK having a nuke. The entire world would ensue to level NK should it invade South Korea.

Jason is there some kind of link for this? I don't see much about it and I expect it's a pretty new story.

I do not believe for one moment that the North Korea would actually invade South Korea in the event of a blockade. They may state this and experts may allow for the possibility, but it does not make sense. The North Koreans would not have Chinese support for any war against South Korea, and would be completely cut off from trade.

I also doubt what scorpion says about the rest of the world attacking North Korea should it invade South Korea. For one, most of the world is exceedingly weak. There are only a few countries in the world that actually could help. What would happen in the event of maximum confrontation with North Korea would be, I believe, this : the United States would demand of China that it cease support for the North Korean government. The Chinese would do so. There would be a military coup in North Korea. The Chinese are in no way eager to have American forces operating up to their border, they will make the North Koreans back down if things get too hairy. One hopes.
