Ellis County Sheriff investigators are searching for a woman witnesses said they saw drag a dog by its leash from the back of a pickup truck down Pratt Road Thursday near Red Oak.
After the dog was found in a ditch off FM 2377, P.J. Varrassi and her family began caring for the black Labrador named "Lucy."
"The dog ran as fast as it could and then it finally couldn't keep up with the truck as it was going down Pratt, and it just finally gave up," Varrassi said witnesses described.
"I put them in the same category as a child predator and a child molester," she said. "If you are going to do this to an animal, then you're going to do this to a human."
