Who is getting their flu shot this year? We are having our "health fair" here at work tomorrow - so I will get my flu shot. I have also decided to have the blood work (no coffee in the am

) and a "heel" bone density test done while I'm at it.

I'm not getting the flu shot this year or any year for that matter. I'd much rather get the flu then what's in the shot. As long as you take measures to be healthy and keep your immune system good, there is a low chance you will get the flu. I haven't got the flu for as long as I can remember.

I had mine already. My employer doesn't offer them, however they are offering and paying for the Hepatitis shot series. So I'm having all 3, spaced out over the next 6 approx. months. I was at my local grocery, Kroger's the other night (late, after 10 p.m. picking up an Rx for my daughter). I merely asked how hard it was to schedule a shot this year and 3 heads bent down. I heard some murmurings and the next thing I knew, the Pharmacist on duty asked - would you like a shot right now? I said yes! I always luck out like this! Once there was announcement in Kroger's, "we have an limited amount of flu shots available, for the next 15 minutes". This was the year they were very scarce. I ditched my cart so fast and then after the shot, I misplaced it. Took 5 minutes to find it!
I have had a flu shot every year since 1992. Had a severe case of the flu that year and I'll never miss one if I can help it.

I never get the flu shot. I have a list of meds I can't take as long as my arm. I haven't had the flu since 1967 I think (hong kong). What I should take is the pneumonia vaccine since I've had pneumonia numerous times.

I'm required to take the flu shot every year as well as various other vaccines. I plan on getting my flu shot taken care of tomorrow.

I'm required to take the flu shot too because of my diabetes. I remember having the flu and sinusitis both at the same time. I was visiting my best friend in GooseCreek, SC and got sick. My other friend had to drive us back home. I do not go without taking that shot!

Not all people have that luxury, no matter how hard they try.

Linda - I agree. I had a severe case of the flu in 1992, as I mentioned above. I had it for 3 weeks - fever for 8 days, severe cough and congestion that almost went into pneumonia (sp?). I ended up seeing my Internist twice in that 3 week period. He couldn't say this enough - do not skip a flu shot next year! I had 2 very young children, 2 and 5. Nina was in Kindergarten that year and I'm sure that is how I caught it. Probably from volunteering in her class. I slept in our guest room also - I coughed my head off everynight. Woke everyone up. You do not want to wake a 2 yr old up at 2 a.m. - I would cough in my pillow - LOL
I made sure I got a shot the following year and I've never skipped. Even when scarce somehow I managed to find them available.
Once you've had the flu this bad, you just never forget it. My husband worked 6 days a week back then so I had kids home and underfoot each day, except for 3 hours of Kindergarten. I don't know how I got thru it but I did!
See why I'd never miss a shot? LOL

If I can get away with *not* taking it I will. On base since I'm a contractor, it's recommended, so I don't have to take it, but at the hospital I work at at night I'm not going to bring it up unless they do, I rather not.
The hubby may have to get it, I talked to his doctor already and he said next time I call him ask him, the hubby don't want it, but I personally think he should at least get the pneumonvax because he had ARDS(acute respiratory distress syndrome) when he was in the hospital, though he already told me he's been smoke free since 7/23/05 he don't need it, sigh

I've never had the flu shot, but I would swear that when Marty's Mom would get it, she would get a cold afterwards.
Anyway, I'm not required to get a shot, but I can certainly understand getting it if you have certain medical conditions or have had the flu before or even children for that matter.
My county is having a lot of flu shot centers setup in different cities throughout the fall. I won't get one until I'm required to get one myself. If there is a shortage, I don't want someone NOT getting one that really needed it because I got it instead.
