It's almost time for the little goblins, ghosts, witches and fairies to hit the streets again! What kind of candy do you give the little trick or treaters? We may get 5 if we're lucky (one street/cul de sac subdivision) so we get the good stuff...hershey bars, reeses, stuff like that.

This is my first year at this house but I know we'll get atleast the neighborhood kids, so probably 10-15. I bougth Nerds and Now&laters. My kids love that kind of stuff. I am the one who loves the Reece's and such that's why I can't buy it, it would be gone already.

Let's see.....I used to have a challenge with H. candy, since my oldest daughter has a peanut allergy. I had to buy only non peanut candy, since she's very allergic. But last year she was on campus and not home at Halloween. So we bought lots of peanut candy, which shocked our neighbors, they thought they had the wrong house! So sigh, this year will be the same - sadly. Another Halloween with any candy I find on sale!
Except bubble gum. I used to buy one or two huge bags, enjoying some myself. Not this year - I gave it up - cold turkey. I'm done with chipping teeth and pulling out old fillings. I'm sitting here with 5 crowns and I don't want any more! My dentist said bubble gum is one of the worst things you can chew when you're my age and have a mouth full of old fillings and enamel that seems to chip, on even pudding. So I gave it up......I will miss it! Sugarless bubble gum is just not the same thing, at all!
*Edit* I didn't answer all your questions. Depending upon the wx, we usually get a steady turnout for at least the first hour. We can get a lot if it's warm out. Maybe 75 to 100 kids? The last 30 minutes it's a trickle though. Usually teenagers.

I usually go out with the kids while my wife gives out candy. Last year she made 300 bags and ran out before the night was over. Our haul was limited by our endurance.
Two years ago I made myself a costume. (It was just before the last presidential election) I got a brown paper bag and drew an ugly face on it with the caption "voting for John Kerry" at the bottom, and put it over my head. In this small rural community, most people loved it, but at one house with Kerry signs out front, the people were not amused and refused to give me any candy. I got a real kick out of that.
We got 350 bags this year and expect to give them all out.

I am waiting till i get paid to buy any candy. We get so many kids that are brought into the neighborhood by the carload that I can't afford to give out the good stuff. They will probable get the cheap stuff that has the dumdum pops and the smartee rolls in the mix.

Daylilly, that bus them into my neighborhood too. It's the perfect place to go door to door. I'll set up a spooky area in my driveway with torches and pumpkins. My next door neighbor will come over too. We'll drink beer and wine and give out chips and Reese Cups. I'll probably have some beer on ice (under the table) for any Dads or Moms that need to quench their thirst. If it's as cold on the 31st as it is today we may have a heater under the table and serve cocoa with Baileys.lol

Usually Halloween weather is warm during the day with temps in the low 70's and lows in the 50's A light jacket or swaetshirt is usually all I see on the kids by the time it gets dark. My neighbors all have their own little scary place to hand out the candy at. My oldest sone is the one who likes to get dressed in a costume and decorate the garage area with creepy scary things and have scary music playing. I usually let him hand out the candy. I put all the candy in a big stainless steel bowl I have and then get a smaller bowl and put some of the candy in it and that is the bowl the kids see the candy in, they don't see the big bowl. When the smaller bowl gets emptied, he comes in and fills the smaller bowl back up from the larger bowl.
Speaking of the weather, we went from having temps in the 70;s for morning lows and 80's for high, we woke up to a morning low of 44 degrees this morning. It is still chilly and has only warmed up by one degree.
We wanted some cooler weather and lower humidity levels and boy did we get them.
I didn't even have to use my cold water and washcloth or drink any of the bottled ice water I had with me on crossing duty. I even had to wear a jacket.. Then when I came back into the house , the house felt hot because it was set at 76 degrees on the thermostat.. I opened the front door and left it open till the temp dropped to 72 in the house , then it felt more comfortable.

We used to have a huge turnout at Halloween and even set up a spook house with the neighbors. Lord it was fun! However, since 9-11, all the suburanites got scared about sending the kids out and we only get 5 or 6 knocks at the door. What a shame. That was always my favorite holiday as a kid - better than Christmas even! The last few years I've bought the good stuff that Dave and I will eat probably all through the end of the year.

Twix, Kitkats, Almond joy, reeses. And a couple of beers or some wine or maybe some baileys. Not sure if we will be up to drinking. We leave tomorrow for NY for a halloween party and a Giants game Sunday at the meadowlands. (it is our 12th wedding anniversary on the 29th). No-one knows that we are going to this halowwen party , it is a huge bash thrown by friends and family they are expecting about 200 people. We got costumes that cover our face, don't know how long my hubby can go without talking though. We might last an hour before we let everyone know we are there. It has been 3 years since we have seen everyone. We can't wait. We fly back halloween morning just in time to hand out candy.

We live in a small, gated community, with less than a dozen kids. A few people may take their young (infant and toddler aged) grandkids who've come to visit. I bought little bags of Goldfish and mini Quaker chocolate chip granola bars for the little ones, plus a mix of Hershey, Reese's, Almond Joys, and Kit Kat for the older kids. This Halloween, my husband will be in Tallahassee on business, and I don't get home from work much before 6. So I'll probably come home for lunch that day and leave the goodie-filled basket by the front door for the kids who come around before I'll get home. We've done this before (even when more kids lived in the neighborhood), and no one ever "abused" the system (i.e., emptied the basket). I still haven't put out my pumpkins or other decorations yet, though -- this weekend, for sure!
