Hubby and I are looking into a new TV. He wants one in the 42 or 48' inch range. We have Directv (not sure if that makes a difference). Does anyone have any opinions on what the best kind to get. I have done some research on the internet, but I am more confused now than when I started.

Any info is very much appreciated.

We've got a 48" Zenith plasma and LOVE it! My mom has an HD CRT, and while the HD channels and DVDs look great, non-HD broadcasts are noticeably fuzzy. Neighbors have an LCD screen HD TV, and I really don't notice much difference between it and our plasma screen. One thing we learned about the plasma (after purchase) is that it MUST remain upright at all times. Once it's installed, you want it to stay put and avoid moving it around. If anything goes wrong, there are so few technicians at this point it'll cost several hundred bucks just to get someone to look at it. We fell for the insurance plan, but better safe than sorry in this household.
Keep checking the sales circulars in your area - electronics get cheaper the closer you get to the holidays. Better yet, wait for the after Christmas sales for the best deals.

Ooops - forgot to add, we also checked Consumer Reports online and it was very helpful in making our decision.

Thanks for the info Jen. I did see that about the Plasma. We do move around. 4 times in the last 5 years and one was from another state so that is a concern. I will check out the consumer reports.

One thing, get the biggest that you can afford. Otherwise you will be wishing you had gotten bigger. I have a 48 inch tabletop projection and I love it.

If you have extra room. Front projectors are the way to go.

My husband wants a 48 or 50 inch. I didn't realize that the projectors were any good any more. I thought they didn't have the best picture. Or that you can't see them from the side?
