We have recently had a problem on the stormdancing chat network with malicious users/bots attempting to send a file containing a virus with the extention .exe. via DCC in Mirc.

DO NOT ACCEPT ANY FILES OF THIS NATURE OR ANY FILE TRANSFERS FROM SOMEONE YOU DO NOT KNOW.

We are working to ban these users from the chat server as quickly as possible. If someone attempts to send u a file and u do not know them notify a stormdancing server staff member ASAP. We usually hang out in the #help room while on duty. Hopefully we can eradicate this problem soon. Remember: you are in no danger unless u accept a file.

Had this happen last night. mIRC seems to automatically block these files doesn't it?

By default yes mirc does block these kinds of files. However its possible that someone, interntionally or not, may change their settings.

Note that Java seems to be receiving plenty of viruses...the most prevalent so far is a Trojan (Byte-Verify) which came up 30 times within ONE Ad-Aware scan on my cybertoy.

Watch it in there....

Myself and the other stormdancing network staff are bringing the situation under control. Hopefully as we ban all the addresses they are using they will not be able to bother us anymore.
