How to Bleach clothes...

Ok... since my mom died 3 years ago, I dont know who to ask this question to... I like to bleach my socks and white under shirts... do you use hot water or cold water? I know simple question... right??

Hey Yankee! Every so often I add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bleach to my whites loads. Water temp doesn't really matter in my experience, but if you don't have a bleach dispenser in your washer, make sure the tub is full and the agitator is going before you add it. When you pour it in, do it very slowly so one garment doesn't catch it all and end up with bleach spots.
General laundry rule of thumb from my mother: white cottons can take the hot water; use warm for synthetics. I really love white sheets and use hot water and a little bleach with every washing. Hope this helps!

Hot water! I also add a little oxyclean or borax depending on what I have available, makes them even whiter!

My mom swears by Chlorox 2 powder, just mix in first and agitate well before adding clothes. Agitate again, and then you can turn off your washer for an hour or more to soak.
Liquid bleach tends to whiten but also leave a slight yellow tinge and also it seems to break down the fibers, bleached items just feel worn out or thinner to me, over time.
Speaking of bleaching, did you all know that we're supposed to use liquid bleach on our white underwear? Because, well if we don't there are germs left over, even after washing, drying and putting away in our drawers. Yes, read this suggestion on a health web site. Of course if I mentioned this to my older daughter, she said - white underwear - who in the world still wears them? LOL She buys her at Victoria Secrets......yeah, hot water and chlorine bleach would work well on those expensive undies.....

Kids today wear the thong because they do not want panty lines. I love my lacy underwear but also love my cotton hipsters. Hope the guys are not reading this thread.
Bleach does dryrot the fibers of clothing after a while. I also know that dryer sheets will cause yellowing of white clothes. No dryer sheets for my white clothes.

you know...I opened this thread to find out how to get my "yard" socks clean, and I find out about Linda's lacy underwear. What a bonus!

Spying implies I am gathering information for malicious purposes. Not true. My socks were dirty, lacy underwear intrigues me (and most normal males), and the fact of the matter is the second you typed that you knew it would get hit on, therefore, I am only an accomplish to your own fantasy.
