I am half-tempted to moo at the next telemarketer after reading this:

Fed up with telemarketers? Try mooing

By Sara Ledwith

LONDON, England (Reuters Life) - Congratulations! You can win the holiday of your dreams - a break from telemarketers -- if you're willing to moo, fake a murder scene, or follow a list of other diversionary tactics.

Those calls that always come when you're sitting down to dinner, with a robotic script to give you the secret of solar-powered hot-water bottles, can be a thing of the past. The Web offers many escapes from what Time Magazine has dubbed one of the worst inventions of the last century.

Some are practical - others frivolous, but tempting.

Or do what Jerry did on "Seinfeld:" Gee, I am too busy right now. Could I get your number? Telemarketer said they cannot. Seinfeld said: Then I guess you don't want to be disturbed either.

Unfortunately, alot of them are voice messages - unable to speak to them,
and, resort to hanging up! The real humans were always fun.... and, WHAT is
your company....can you SPELL that?...and, what's the product?...can you SPELL
that?....and, your name is... can you SPELL that? And you're located in...
can you SPELL that? You could back 'em up and go on with that, forever... too fun! :cheesy:

I'm on the DO NOT CALL LIST and since signing up I've not had ONE telemarketer call, not ONE....well, unless you count the ENDLESS political calls :x

If its a live person I usually start singing "Cotton Eye Joe"

They usually hang up quickly.

Don't get domestic ones anymore after having them barred, however we do seem to get international one sometimes (Including from the USA). What's the point???

I make it point to be totally and incredibly rude to telemarketers to the point of cutting them off at the beginning of their spiel and hanging up after a choice comment or two.

I'm passive aggressive. Before I got on the ban list, I used to let them talk and put the phone down, go back and hang up, they call again and I would do the same thing. My mama liked to use a whistle, they never called back. The worst ones were the funeral homes after my papa died.

I don' t get any at home anymore after being on the Do Not Call Registry but I used to have some fun too:

- Ask them to repeat things and spell them for me as I s l o w l y read the letters back to them.

- Keep saying "what?" and "huh?" after each thing they say

- Ask them inane questions in response to anything they say. They say "Hi, how are you?", I reply "Do you like fishing". and things like that.

I wish they'd do a business Do Not Call. I'm bombarded at work with them. And 99.9% of them can barely speak english.

Wow,that was odd. When I read this I first read "Try mooning" and thought to myself "Er...How is that going to work" so I read further and then only realized it was "mooing".Hate it when my eyes/brain do that.

When one of my kids picked up the phone I heard him say this : "You reached Fred's Mortuary, you stab them, we slab them" and hung up. I asked him what was that about and he said that was the best way to end any and all calls from telemarketers. Since then the telemarketers do not call my house or his anymore.

sometimes I feel sorry for telemarketers tho as some are just young teens just out of school trying to make some money
