A happy ending - bought a new used van

I reported on Saturday that my van got smashed in an accident of friday.
Today I received the insurance settlement from the other driver's insurance company. The settlement was $40 more than I paid for the van a year ago. This also allowed me to avoided the potential major engine repair that I feared was around the corner as well as whatever would be needed for the inspection due in January. I suspected that it needed new brakes, and the power steering was acting funny. So all in all it worked out great. I avoided some expensive repairs and turned a profit on the vehicle. They're also paying for a rental car for 10 days.

That's hard to beat! :D

PERFECTO Ed 8-)

That happened to my son Chris about 3 years ago....we sold HIM a VAN too come to think of it and within a month, someone ran a red light, hit the front right fender and TOTALED the frame....he came out with a jacked up knee and a new car from the deal.

Ed, that's great. I don't think it could have worked out any better. Be sure to let us know when you find another set of wheels. :)

Now how crazy is that? Only you Ed, only you. You will LOVE the gas mileage versus the van gas mileage. Heck, you may even get spoiled.

I wish I had come out of my wreck that good. I guess I shouldn't complain, except for the fact I will still be paying for my vehicle for a few more years. The owner and the drive carried only the minimum required here in TX. Insurance in TX sucks!!!

Good to hear you are being taken care of so well ED. REFRESHING for once.

Update: Yesterday I went out and bought a '99 Dodge Caravan SE sport. 5-door, loaded, with the larger V6. The interior is immaculate. The outside has a few minor imperfections, but that's what you'd expect. It was marked $5,000, but when I explained how much money I had to work with, he "let" me have it for $4,000 with a 6-month/9000 mile warranty.

It's a year newer than the old one, but the miles are higher. With the miles, the warranty was important to get.

So overall I think I did good. Best of all, NO CAR PAYMENTS!
