Can't believe it happened...again...

This afternoon around 4:30pm, I was involved in an accident. I was crossing Dilcrest Drive at US 42 here in Florence(map of location). Unfortunately the sun was in my eyes and I could not tell if I had the light...so I started across and that's when someone coming off of the highway hit me in the right front while going about 5 mph. There's no damage and I am fine...except being mentally shaken up. But geez...second time in 2 years, am I just unlucky or what???

I'm thinking the same. I didn't go to sleep until almost 3am I was still so shaken up.

Jeremy - I wonder if you could attach a pole to the back of your chair, with a red flag on it? Something that would retract so you could lower it? Just a thought.

Jeremy I am so glad you are OK. Do you wear sunglasses? If not you might want to get a pair to wear at this time of the year when the sun is at the lowest part of the horizon.
Check to see if a light is going to be placed at that intersection soon.

There is a crossing light. Due to the sun angle I could not see it.

Ok if the crossing lights are working, , the car may have run the light. I have seen many cars here in Lakeland that will run the light when people are getting ready to cross the street using the Push To Walk lights.
If you need to get sunglasse, make sure to ones that are polarized. It eliminates the glare. I definitely have to have sunglasse when I am out side in the sun, the glare really bothers me. My crossing area in the afternoon is always in sunlight, no shade there unless I provide it with a beach umbrealla, so sunglasses are required for me.

2 times in 2 years isn't bad, but i'm sure you would like to have none. shades are always a good thing to have handy for those awkward sun days in the fall and spring. great to hear there was no damage. just don't feel unconfident and drive defensively i guess?

Did you have the light or did the car have the light?

From the police report, he had the light. Hopefully, though, I might get some sunglasses this Christmas...we'll see.
