Prayers for Alex

My 2.5 year old nephew, Alex, needs help from my S2K Prayer Warrior friends. In early November, Alex got a bad ear infection and started having seizures. The docs all figured he was seizing because of the infection. All tests indicated no abnormal brain waves or epilepsy. Since early November, he has gotten worse and worse. Over New Years weekend, he seized 40 times in 2 days. Because all the doctors were on vacation, his parents couldn't get anyone to admit him to the hospital again.

Alex is now in Texas Children's Hospital until further notice. Some of the best neurologists in the world are working with him and they admit they can't figure out what is going on yet. We're praying the operative word here is "yet". The poor little guy just lays there in bed with his eyes spinning out of his head twitching and jerking. Once in a while you can get direct eye contact with him and a smile or a giggle, but for the most part, Alex is gone.

To see a child go from perfectly healthy to this is very frightening - especially when some of the top docs in the world can figure out what the *:&A$!! is going on.

Please consider adding Alex to your prayer list.

Jen - praying for Alex. I can't even begin to imagine what you're all going thru, especially young Alex. Now that his doctors are on top of things and an ENT has been called in, hopefully you'll all know what you're dealing with. Please keep us updated.

My thoughts and prayers coming your way....

Mary

Poor baby! It breaks my heart to see an innocent baby go through this. My 4-year old little cousin Isabella suffers from seisures. (But they are rare and she usually goes months before she gets one) She did not even get her first one until the day Hurricane Katrina struck and they evacuated to Dallas. They don't know the cause either other than an abnormality onher brain. I will pray for baby Alex and that they can get his seizures under control. And I hope they find the cause very soon.

So many thanks to everybody praying for Alex! He seemed to be doing better last night and this morning, but while I was at the hospital this afternoon, he seized again and is now totally "out of it." It's just horrible seeing this once-very-active and engaging little boy just laying in a bed with his eyes spinning out of his head.

Since I don't work, I have offered to take night duty at the hospital so my brother can go home and start gettting back to work. He is the one and only bread winner in the family, and he MUST protect his job - and insurance. I can see why they don't want to leave him to the care of the nurses - they're so darn busy and overworked there is no way they can keep an eye on him all the time. Such is the state of our medical system these days. His parents have 2 other boys to worry about, and Alex is understandably taking all their time these days. The older boy in particular really needs to have some "Daddy time" of his own. Not much else I can do at this point other than shuttle decent food down to the hospital and offer to take over some of the nursing duties.

Again, many thanks for the prayers, and keep 'em up! I know God listens! :D

Here's a pic of Alex taken just a couple of months ago before all this crap started. You can just see the mischief in his eyes!

Jen, you know the prayers are flowing from my portion of W. Houston. Please keep us posted and remember to take care of yourself too. You are an angel for volunteering like you have. That is what family is all about though.

Prayers and warm wishes from my keyboard here in the desert, Jen. I'm sure as the doctors discover more about what the problem is, what they are dealing with, that they will be able to help bring Alex back toward the normalcy that makes him who he is.

If your family feels totally overwhelmed by where they find themselves, and if they are just looking for other options or second opinions, drop me a PM. A longtime friend of ours has lived in Houston for years and has major connections with medical staff through Conroe Medical in Houston.

Meanwhile...we hope each day is better for Alex and all of you.

Jen, little Alex is so adoreable. He reminds me of the little boy in The Santa Clause.

How wonderful of you to take the night shift. I know it must help you as much as it helps your family and little Alex - knowing that you're there for him and them. How sweet you are. ((HUGS))

My prayers will continue for you all.
