STRONG QUAKE HITS UZBEKISTAN

MOSCOW - A powerful earthquake rocked
mountainous southeast Uzbekistan over
night, the RIA Novosti news reported on
Tuesday, January 9, 2007, quoting emergency
ministry officials.
Tremors of up to 8.0 on the Richter scale
were registered some 200 kilometres
(120 Miles) southeast of Tashkent, officials
