Are you wanted by the law?

Are you sure?

You might want to check the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Web site to be sure, says Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The site lists 70,000 people with warrants for their arrest. advertisement

To see the list of wanted people, go to http://www.mcso.org and click on Techno-Cops.

"There are many, many people in this county who have warrants for them, and they don't know they have warrants," Arpaio said.

The online database, called Techno-Cops, first was unveiled a year ago with the names of 30,000 fugitives wanted for various crimes, including homicide, sexual assault, DUI and drug offenses. About 500 warrants have been cleared since then, Arpaio said.

Friday, the database was increased to include all 70,000 open warrants in the county. Misdemeanor warrants also are included.

The database can be searched by name or zip code, so people can turn in their friends and neighbors, too.

Some warrants date back to the 1970s. About 37 percent are for drug offenses. Ten percent are for moving violations.

Arpaio said he will send out his posse and deputies to track down fugitives who don't surrender themselves.

"You violate the law," Arpaio said, "you should go through the criminal justice system and pay your debt to society."

Actually, we need more like him. If they are investigating for such a long time, maybe they should focus on keeping the illegals from crossing our borders.

The whole Galaxy of Liberal Criminal Rights groups have been after him for years but besides being tough he's also wise and the courts have backed him most of the time. Unless he were to pull some really objectionable brody the voters in Maricopa County are likely to keep him in for two reasons. First off, most of them are law abiding citizens who have little sympathy for criminals in jail and secondly Maricopa County is strongly conservative unlike Pima County. The latter being under control of the Democrats who every election perform many miracles normally reserved for the Almighty.

If you were stuck in his jail you would find that he is as tough as he is made out to be. He's a Western Sheriff and the traditions of the Western Sheriffs are a bit rougher than east of Dodge. We've had some Sheriff Joe type Sheriffs here in Cochise County our most notable being Jimmy Judd who was the County Sheriff for a long time and was both no nonsense and popular. Coddling criminals once they are locked up is not a popular way of doing things in Arizona.

Sheriff Joe lives in Fountain Hills, Arizona, just across the McDowell Mountains from where we live. We were at an art fair there last year when the public address announcer pointed out that "Sheriff Joe will be autographing pink underwear at the center court for the next 30 minutes."

Within minutes the line wrapped around several displays and down the walkway!

The appeal of Sheriff Joe is that he sees the law as black and white. If it's on the books, then it should be both aggressively dealt with by law enforcement and equally as aggressively by the courts. Not everyone sees it the same way, but it's hard to argue with his thinking.

He's getting attention this week for posting a list of people who have warrants out for their arrest on his website (maricopa county techno cops). You can even get photos of those his deputies are after! I heard he was expecting something like a million hits a month on the website.

I checked it out just to make sure I wasn't on the list.

I would not look good in pink underwear.

HIGH FIVES around 8-) Thanks Sis...I could NOT have said it BETTER!

If you're gonna do the crime, expect the WORST treatment in Arizona (at least in Sheriff Joe's custody 8-) ) I wish to HADES "our" sheriff had the backbone to implement Joe's standard of prisoner treatment, then my JOB would be done away with 8-)

Honestly, don't you think taking away a prisoners so called RIGHTS away is due JUSTICE? Do you think they should have the luxuries of Playboys, cigarettes, sodas, cable tv, etc at the expense to the taxpayers? I think NOT! 8-)

I don't think prison should be made comfortable in any way. They should have thought of RIGHTS when they did the crime. Food, water and books is all I want to pay for.

Sheriff Joe can sign my pink panties!!!!!

He's the one that makes 'em wear pink underwear, pink handcuffs, eat green bologna, took away their cigarettes, t.v., no sodas, no Playboys or any other smutt in jail....

The green bologna is also on nice moldy bread as well

If all prisons would only serve bread that has been sitting out in the open in a nice, dark, very damp room for 4 weeks so that it is covered in mold along with only foul tasting water to drink, we may not have the problem with crime that we have today

So....you want these scumbags to live the life of luxury that most HONEST, law abiding citizens can ONLY dream about  makes sense to me. Tell ya what, the NEXT rape of a teenage girl I have, I'll call ya and have you come with me to the hospital for the investigation, I'll let you do the interview and then I'll have you accompany me to arrest the perp. and THEN we'll see if you still want this UPSTANDING rapist put up at YOUR expense  All expenses paid for the 20-30 years, free medical care, free schooling to rehabilitate the scumbag....yeah, makes PERFECT sense to me! I hope you're never a victim of a crime
