As NFL Coach of the Year, Coach Sean Payton was treated like royalty by avid Saints fans around town. Now, Payton will have the opportunity to serve as royalty in an upcoming parade this Carnival season.
The Krewe of Orpheus named Payton its monarch on Tuesday for their 30-float, Lundi Gras extravaganza.
Sonny Borey, Captain of Orpheus, said Payton wished to use the opportunity as a way to tell Saints fans “thank you” for their support during the season, but added this would really be the fans’ chance to show their appreciation for the coach.
Payton will ride his own float in the parade, Borey said. Orpheus rolls Monday, February 19 at 5:45 p.m. and rolls Uptown.
The Krewe of Orpheus was founded in 1993. Previous monarchs include Harry Connick Jr., Josh Hartnett and Whoopi Goldberg.
