According to the above link, 7.1 will be discontinued tomorrow. Be sure you're up to date with the latest version, 7.5.

Yeah, I keep getting reminders and haven't really read them yet. I was wondering if they were going to force us to buy their product.
So we can go get a new free version?

On the link Jeremy posted it stated that AVG will automatically upgrade the 7.1 but that they will do it slowly because of overload.

OK. I did not see that part. Still, I'm putting that out there as a notice.'
Yes Ed version 7.5 is available for free as well as for purchase. That free version is what I run.

I got a notice when I turned on my laptop saying my AVG subscription had expired and I needed to upgrade to 7.5
They give the steps to follow and I did everything exactly as they said and then got an "Installation Failed!" notice. The details show this:
Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avg7us.lng: creating backup....
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (32) %DESTINATION% = "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avg7us.lng.install_backup", %SOURCE% = "C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avg7us.lng"
Error 0x80004004
Anyone have a clue what that means and what I need to do to fix it? My laptop is only a few months old with no additional software installed. Just AVG, Sygate Firewall, and Ad-Aware, all programs I've used for years on all of my computers.

That happened to me too. I went and uninstalled the AVG 7.1 myself. I, rebooted the computer then installed the 7.5. No error messages. Hopefully that will work for you too.

Well, it didn't look like that was gonna work because I got the same message when I tried to uninstall. It said that the Uninstallation failed! But... it had the restart option so I figured what the heck. After I restarted, I clicked on the AVG 7.5 icon on my desktop (the download had worked...it was the installation that had failed) and went through the same installation, but this time, it said "Installation Successful!"
Thanks!

You're Welcome. Now I am having the same trouble upgrading my computer at work.
