NAPLES, Fla. — A cunning couple helped cops collar a pantsless prowler.

Thomas and Jean Weibling first became suspicious when they arrived home to find their utility room door open. The couple had left it closed. The master bedroom door, which they had left open, was closed.

When a naked man sprinted from their bedroom and escaped through the front door, it was clear to the Weiblings that something was amiss.

After searching their home, the couple found a number of clues: an opened jewelry box in the bedroom, an opened beer in the office and a pair of unfamiliar denim shorts on their bed. The cut-offs contained the couple's biggest break: a wallet with the Florida ID of Walter Marcum Krodel, 47, the suspected burglar.

After fleeing the Weibling home and trying unsuccessfully to get into the home of a neighbor, Krodel reportedly hid in the bushes. He was apprehended there shortly, unarmed and unclothed, and charged with burglary of a dwelling and resisting arrest without violence, said police.

According to the arrest report, Krodel told investigators that "all he had to do was tell his lawyer he had been stoned and that would get him out of any burglary charges."

A burglar in hand(cuffs) is better than one in the bush, or the bedroom for that matter.

My guess is that he intended to leave wearing the gentleman-of-the-house's clothes, to "avoid detection". Who'd be looking for a man in a suit, walking down the street, as a burglar suspect?
