For every Pinellas County Resident,
Please go and vote for Penny For Pinellas. It is an extra tax that has built the BaySide Bridge, repaved US-19, built a new courthouse, and has expanded the jail. It also helped build the Pinellas trail.
This is not a new tax, but is going to be renewed for 10 years.

I would never support tax increases in my county

it's not an increase - just a continuence of one already in force. I tend to agree with the less taxes the better.

Its only one penny and it has done so much in the last few years.

This is a rare exception where it seems they have done a good job administering the funds. If I lived in Pinellas I'd vote for it. Sarasota County has a similar penny tax, and when I lived in the county I voted for it.

So where do you expect your county to find the funds to repair and build things that are needed? Will you be one of the first ones to complain when something needs done and there's no money to fix or build it?

Yes it does appear they use the money wisley...

I dont know, I guess I don't enjoy the fact that the government gets more and more socialistic with all these taxes

In general, I agree and I am for less taxes. As I mentioned above, however, these 1 penny sales tax add-ons in many Florida counties tend to go to good use like building roads, parks, libraries, etc. Taxes are not always bad. For good examples of taxless societies, check out much of Africa. Heck, we don't even have to go that far: just look at Haiti.

Judging at what has already been done with this tax, it looks like a good initiative to me. Some things just can't be realised bottom-up and should be done top-down, for example by a county. A tax like this is a good way of financing the projects
