Well.........we've been approached by the Governor of Az to possibly serve on the Arizona Forestry Advisory Commision :o Can you BELIEVE THIS????? Seems since we've become friends with Jim Paxon (for those of you who do not know Jim....he's the one, along with Rick Lupe, that saved our BACON last year) that MANY, MANY doors have opened.......talk about dropping to the floor :o Here's a copy of the email we JUST received, I need to get off line, we've actually got ANOTHER boomer fixing to come through, I just HAD to post this!

Dennis :o

Ms. Denton,

If you are interested in serving on one of the Governor's Boards or
Commissions, please visit her website http://www.governor.state.az.us and click
where it says "Boards and Commissions".
You can fill out an application on line or to request that one be sent and
ask any questions call 602-542-2449.

Thank you,

J. Millett

It's by NO MEANS a done deal.........still have to do the typical bur. BS.....the MOUNTAINS of paperwork, the this, the that, blah, blah, blah......you know how the system works BUT......at least it's a start! Jim asked us to email, call the Gov's office and apply for the position that's open, we did just that AND......Jim said he'd put a word or 2 in for us, keep your fingers x'ed!

Wow, Dennis,
Does this commission have any power? I take it that the commission acts in an advisory role to the Gov? I wonder how closely he works with the commission and how much he listens. Maybe it's advisory to various state agencies in setting and enforcing policy? We have various commissions here in PA, and some of them wield considerable influence. For instance, one of them is the fish and boat commission who must OK development or construction that would affect streams and rivers.

Would there be any conflict of interest with the environmental studies you do?.

Thanks gang.......like I said, it's a lengthy process, could take quite some time before we find out if we are picked to sit on this newly formed commission.

The commission will be comprised of #1.....Wally Covington (profess. of Forestry NAU).....2 attorneys that will work out the frivolous lawsuits that I'm sure will follow the commissions recommendations and others such as Michelle and I that have real world, practical experience in the field of forest managment. Ed.......the commission will work hand in hand with the gov., setting forth thinning policies that will go into effect as soon as the gov signs them.

At first I really didn't care for Janet Napalotono as Gov........I thought, "Oh GREAT.......another Jane Hull!" But..........she is on FIRE to get the forests here in Az back to pre settlement conditions.

Dennis....

Looks like a great opportunity...but it is quite a process to go through. I received a similar letter under Jane Hull and have had my application on file for a few years. Water resources.

With a Democratic governor and my Republican background...the hand is not outstretched so far in my direction.

Still...I have been told over and over it is a "who you know" opportunity, and your friendship with Jim Paxon will not hurt your chances.

Best be aware, however, that these are political appointments, not just professional ones, so Roberts Rules of Order can get lost in the shuffle of political agendas. I know Michelle had a tough time with that at the local level.

Still...I believe your insight would be invaluable as a participant. Hope you can make that happen!
